When You Surrender to Jesus, You Gain More Than You Lose

At some point in our lives we will have the insight that we can't control it all. We make plans, we try to achieve our dreams, build relationships or look for success or to secure our future. However, all of these attempts have a deeper motive in each man's heart the need for God.

Sometimes, the decision to put our trust in Jesus is a step towards losing something precious. We feel that we are losing our freedom, our dreams, our desires, our lifestyle that we are used to. But when you give your life to Jesus, you are not giving it away, you're putting it in His hands, and He knows how to put it to good use.

It is in Mark 8:35 that Jesus says, “Whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.” This may sound like a contradiction, but it is a very strong spiritual fact. We give what is less to God's Son than we take from Him.

When you give your life to Jesus you are given forgiveness. Failing to learn from past mistakes doesn't have to ruin your future. You receive grace the unexpected help from God that gives you a reminder that you are not a failure and that your story is not over.

You also receive peace. Life can still be difficult and challenging, disappointing, rejected and uncertain, but you are not alone. You have a trusted individual when you don't understand what it is.

You gain purpose. In our life without God, it is easy to waste several years of your life pursuing things that can never satisfy your soul. However, when Christ is your life, priorities shift. You begin to not only ask what you want, but what God wants you to be.

Surrender does not mean that there will be no more challenges. It signifies that the hardships no longer take precedence. You can walk in the storm, you can walk in the storm, with faith because God is with you.

In some cases, God could call you to give up a relationship, a habit, an attitude, a dream, or a desire that is contrary to His will. It may hurt. You might not realize it, but you don't know why. But trusting God means believing that His plans are greater than what you can see.

What do you wish you would give up today?

Maybe it's up to you. Maybe it's your relationship, job, money, anxieties or history. Whatever it is, put it into Jesus' hands! Perhaps you feel like you're giving something away, but God may have something so much greater in mind for you: peace, purpose, strength, forgiveness, hope and eternal life.

Surrender is not surrender to the death. The only requirement for surrender to Jesus is a faith, a simple trust in him. It says, “Lord, I don't know all the answers, but I know that I trust You.”

The more you give yourself over to Jesus, the more you will receive. You replace worry with tranquility, shame with grace, disorientation with guidance, and meaninglessness with purpose.

So let go. Trust Him. Follow Him. Put all your heart into Him.

There's no reason to worry when Jesus is in charge of your life.
