LIES I WANT TO BE TOLD
I can't see myself
with anyone but you.
I want to burn in your flame
and call the ashes love.
I want to look at the stars
and watch them rearrange themselves
until, somehow,
every constellation carries your face.
I want to breathe the same air
and imagine that somewhere
you are thinking of me too,
even when the night is quiet
and distance has made strangers of us.
I want you to choose me
without hesitation,
to say my name
like it belongs somewhere
between your heartbeat and your breath.
I want to make you mine,
not like a possession,
but like a promise
two people make
when they decide to stay.
I want to come home
knowing there is someone waiting,
someone whose arms feel familiar,
someone who makes the word home
sound less like a place
and more like a person.
I want to be worthy of you.
I want you to open every locked door
and trust me with the rooms
you never let anyone enter.
Because a man does not gamble
with what he truly values.
Have you ever heard
the story of the burning cards?
I play with everything else.
I can place my hopes on the table,
risk my pride,
lose sleep,
lose certainty,
lose almost everything.
But you
You are the one card
I cannot afford to lose.
So tell me the beautiful things.
Tell me I am the one.
Tell me distance won't change us.
Tell me tomorrow will still have your hand in mine.
Tell me every promise you make
will survive the morning.
I know some words
are only words.
I know forever
is a dangerous thing to believe in.
And perhaps these are lies.
But they are the lies
I wish you would whisper into my ear
until my heart forgets
that it ever knew the difference.
Because my mind keeps asking for the truth,
while my heart
my foolish, faithful heart
keeps believing you.
