With so many people saying they deserve or want something in return for pretty much anything, true love and kindness are more rare than ever. Sometimes we do things for people to help us in return later. We love, so that we may be loved. We give so that we can get something in return. However, loving is more than all this. It's about giving for the sake of giving and caring.
When love is unconditional it becomes an acceptance of people for who they are. It is not about disregarding their errors or hurting us. It does not mean, however, that rather than hatred, we should show compassion; rather than quick judgment, we should show understanding. All of us are engaged in our own battles we may be unaware of. It's the simple words, the gentle patience and the understanding that could make a difference in someone's life.
Another thing we should learn is to speak without evil. Words are powerful. They can give a broken heart or ruin someone's confidence. In the process of speaking, before we even begin to talk, we should ask ourselves, will my words bring peace or pain? It's not wise to "catch the other man out" or to spread information just for its negative effect on the other man. Communication should be from the heart.
Giving without a reason is another gift of beauty that is a beautiful expression of kindness. Smiling is not just reserved for special occasions. A helping hand, a kind word of encouragement, a simple "How are you doing?" or a meal can make more of an impact than we think. In some cases, the simplest form of kindness is the moment a person's most significant moment.
Above all, we should learn to care but not to expect anything in return. Some people we assist will not like us! Not all those who love us will love us equally. Some may even think that we are not trying to help them. However, kindness should not be based upon recognition always. Doing good we should do it because it is what we want to be.
But the absence of expectations doesn't just mean that people can take advantage of us. It is possible to be kind and set limits! It's possible to forgive someone, but still pick distance. We can care for someone and not "take their actions on board" and keep our peace. True Love has wisdom.
There's not enough time in the life to spend on hatred, jealousy, bitterness, and an unnecessary resentment. Decide who you want to be when you're around people: a light bearer. Love sincerely. Speak kindly. Give generously. Care deeply. When it is possible forgiving, when it is necessary, protecting the peace.
However, at the end of the day, people may not remember what we said or did for them, but they will remember how we made them feel. Love for no reason, care for no reason, and let kindness shine through your heart.
