Turn the Page: Your Best Chapter May Be Next

There are numerous chapters in life. For some chapters, it's laughter, success, beautiful memories and moments that we wish were never-ending. Other chapters add pain and disappointment, rejection and failure, tears that we never wanted to shed. But, regardless of how bad a chapter can be, there is one thing to remember: a bad chapter does not necessarily mean that the entire story is bad.

At times we are so caught up in yesterday we forget that there is still a tomorrow to be lived. We constantly reflect on what we could have done, what people could have stayed, what we could have done different, and what could have been. We let our past experiences make us believe our future will be just like our past. In reality, however, life doesn't work that way. Every new day gives us another opportunity to turn the page.

But a change of page does not require a change of mind, as if the past simply didn't exist. It's learning that whatever it had to say, it said, and saying, 'It's done. It's done. It no longer has to have any influence on me. What you have done could leave you with scars that are a reminder of you are strong. Losses can become lessons for you. Disappointment can also be what equips you for something you wouldn't have been ready for before.

Perhaps you've had a time when things just kept falling apart. You did a lot of work, but there did not seem to be much progress. You had to rely on others who let you down. You asked for something but it never came. You did something with good intentions, but it didn't turn out like you had envisioned. It's easy to feel like the ending of your story has come in times like these.

But it is not over.

Don't be deterred from a better door by a closed one. A difficult separation can lead to a better relationship. Failure leads to a different plan that leads to a bigger purpose! Sometimes, it's not the end, but merely the beginning of something new.

What you think the next chapter might be might not be. It can take some courage, patience, discipline and faith. You might need to begin over again and beginning over can be daunting. Keep in mind that it is not a restart from scratch, it is a restart. You're starting fresh without losing any of your experience, wisdom, lessons or strength from all the things you've endured.

Don't be frightened off by one painful chapter!

There are still dreams to chase, places to visit, people to meet, opportunities to explore and beautiful memories to make. There are prayers there yet that may be answered in unexpected ways. There are also opportunities that you can't see right now.

So, if the chapter you're consuming is hard, take a breath. Allow yourself to heal. Don't live there forever, learn from what has happened. Once time is up, flip the page.

Sometimes you don't know what the next chapter is, but the beauty of life is that's what it is. It's not a necessity to have all the answers before you proceed. At other times, it takes a good amount of courage to take a step forward.

The past can tell you where you've been, it doesn't have to tell you where you're going.

Turn the page.

Keep believing.

Keep moving.

Keep hoping.

For you don't know your best chapter may not be behind you. It might be the one you're going to write.
