I think we sometimes misunderstand what love is supposed to be.
A lot of us want to be loved. We want someone who will make us breakfast, check on us when we are sick, cuddle us, make us feel special, and always be there when we need them.
And honestly, there is nothing wrong with wanting those things.
But there is one question we often forget to ask:
What am I willing to do for them?
I used to imagine my future husband and think about all the things he would do for me. I imagined how he would hold me, take care of me when I was sick, and make me feel loved.
Then one day, I thought, Wait. What am I going to do for him?
I started imagining myself taking care of him, comforting him, making an effort for him, and being there when he needed me. And suddenly, it did not sound as easy as it had when I was only thinking about what I would receive.
That made me realize something: it is easy to enjoy the idea of being loved when you are not thinking about the effort behind it.
For example, it is easy to say, “I want someone who will take care of me when I am sick.” But are you also willing to stay beside them when they are the one who needs care?
It is easy to say, “I want someone who will always support my dreams.” But are you willing to support theirs too?
This is where I think relationships sometimes go wrong. One person gives everything while the other mostly receives. Eventually, the person who keeps giving becomes tired.
A relationship does not have to be perfectly equal every single day. Sometimes one person will have more to give than the other. But both people should be willing to give.
Both people should be servants of the relationship.
And I don't mean becoming someone's servant or losing yourself for them. I mean being willing to care, listen, support, compromise, and make an effort because you genuinely love that person.
Maybe if we taught ourselves to think about love this way, especially when we are young, we would stop being so desperate to fall in love.
Instead of constantly asking, “When will someone love me?”
We might start asking, “Am I ready to love someone?”
Because love is not just about finding someone who will make you happy.
It is also about becoming someone who wants to make another person happy.
Because:
Real love shows up,
Real love helps,
Real love listens,
Real love encourages,
Real love SERVES...
Serving with kindness and being their for does you claim to care about, lifting them up which so ever way you can.
Love is more about serving than being served,
If it's twisted it would never work out right.
True love gives not just takes
Maybe love serves us best when we first learn how to serve it.
And also always remember that GOD IS LOVE
