Have you ever seen a tortoise
crawling on his way,
slowly creeping, slowly crawling,
fifty yards in half a day?
Oh, so slow! Why so slow?
Does he move from place to place
with that oh-so-very tired
look upon his face?
It is not because they are weak or
lazy
But if you were carrying a house,
how quickly would you go?
Have you seen a tortoise
Taking slowly to his course,
One small step and then another,
Never rushing like his brother?
Oh, so slow! Why move so slow?
Where are you trying hard to go?
Past the garden, past the tree,
Crawling as slow as slow can be.
the rabbits cry,
“Surely you will never fly!
At this speed, before you're there,
We will have gone everywhere!”
But the tortoise does not mind,
He just leaves their jokes behind.
Step by step and inch by inch,
He keeps moving without flinch.
For beneath his little shell,
There is something he knows well:
You don't have to race or run
To arrive when work is done.
So when others hurry past,
And you think you're moving last,
Keep your courage, keep your pace—
Slowly still can win the race!
