Things Life Quietly Taught Me (Episode 9) - Some Things Are Better When You Stop Forcing Them

Sometimes, the hardest thing to do is stop trying so hard.

For the longest time, I thought effort could fix almost anything.

If I wanted something badly enough, I should keep trying.

If something wasn't working, maybe I simply wasn't trying hard enough.

If a relationship felt distant, maybe I needed to communicate better.

If a plan wasn't working, maybe I needed to try another approach.

I always believed there had to be something else I could do.

Now, I think differently.

I've realized that effort is important, but effort isn't magic.

Sometimes, you can do everything you know how to do and still not get the outcome you want.

And that's a difficult thing to accept.

Because when something matters to us, we naturally want to believe we have control over it.

We want to believe that if we just find the right words, make the right decision or try one more time, everything will finally fall into place.

But sometimes, the problem isn't that you're not trying hard enough.

Sometimes, you're simply trying to make something happen that isn't ready to happen.

Or maybe it isn't meant to happen at all.

I've started noticing that the things I force usually leave me exhausted.

I'm constantly thinking about them.

Trying to predict what will happen.

Trying to find the perfect approach.

Trying to make everything go according to plan.

And the more I try to control it, the less peaceful I become.

But there are other things that seem to happen naturally.

The right conversation.

The right opportunity.

The right connection.

You don't have to constantly push.

You don't have to wonder what to say next.

You don't have to keep proving that you belong there.

Things simply flow.

I've come to appreciate that difference.

It doesn't mean everything worthwhile should be effortless.

Of course, some things require hard work.

Some dreams require persistence.

Some relationships require communication and patience

But there's a difference between putting in effort and constantly fighting reality.

I've learned that sometimes, the signs are already there.

Maybe something consistently drains you.

Maybe you're always the one trying to keep it alive.

Maybe you're constantly questioning where you stand.

Maybe you're doing all the work while pretending you're not tired.

At some point, you have to pause and ask yourself:

"Am I building something, or am I forcing something?"

I think that's an important question.

Because not everything that requires effort is worth pursuing forever.

Sometimes, letting go isn't giving up.

Sometimes, it's accepting that you've done what you can.

I've also realized that forcing things can make us miss what is actually happening.

We're so focused on getting the outcome we want that we don't notice when life is pointing us in another direction.

Maybe there's another opportunity.

Another person.

Another path.

Another version of the life we imagined.

And sometimes, that version turns out to be better.

I've had moments where I was convinced that something had to work out a certain way.

When it didn't, I was disappointed.

But later, I looked back and realized that what I thought was a closed door had actually created space for something else.

I didn't see it at the time.

I just knew I wasn't getting what I wanted.

That's the difficult part about trusting life.

Sometimes you have to keep moving before you understand why you're moving.

These days, I still work hard for the things I care about.

I still make plans.

I still hope.

But I'm learning to leave a little room for things to unfold without my constant interference.

If something needs to be forced every step of the way, maybe I need to stop and look at it differently.

Maybe I need to try a different approach.

Maybe I need to wait.

Or maybe I need to let it go.

I don't always know which one it is.

But I'm learning that not everything needs to be chased.

Some things find their way to us when we're no longer busy trying to drag them toward us.

And maybe that's one of the quietest forms of trust.

Doing your part.

Giving it your best.

And then allowing life to do what you cannot.

We'll all be fine eventually!
