I saw you smile today,
and for a moment,
I thought everything was fine.
You laughed with your friends,
answered your calls,
went about your daily life
as though nothing was wrong.
But sometimes,
a smile is only what we choose to show.
Under the surface,
there may be a heart
trying to make sense of yesterday,
a mind worried about tomorrow,
or a person quietly asking,
“How will I get through this?”
Some people carry their worries
without telling anyone.
They go to work,
take care of their families,
reply to messages,
and even encourage others
while fighting battles of their own.
We see the smile,
but we don't see the sleepless night.
We hear, “I'm fine,”
but we don't hear everything
behind those two words.
That is why
we should be careful with people.
Not everyone who is quiet is proud.
Not everyone who is distant is angry.
Not everyone who laughs is happy.
Sometimes, people simply need
a little patience,
a listening ear,
or someone who will stay
without asking too many questions.
We may never know
what someone carries under the surface.
So, let kindness speak
where judgment wants to speak.
Because behind every smile
there may be a story,
behind every silence
there may be a feeling,
and behind every person
there may be a battle
we know nothing about.
And you—when you say, “I'm fine,”
do you really mean it?
