DISOBEDIENCE FEELS LIKE FREEDOM FOR FIVE MINUTES AND PRISON FOR FIVE YEARS
The Five Minutes
It felt like freedom.
I remember walking out that day with my chest high. Nobody could tell me anything.
My pastor said "wait." My mom said "pray first." That still small voice said "this is not it."
But I was tired of waiting. Tired of "God’s time."
So I did it my way. I took the job without covering. I entered the relationship I was warned about. I made the decision with my head, not with God.
For five minutes, I felt alive. I felt in control. I called it "my own decision." Heaven called it disobedience.
The Honeymoon Phase
For a while, nothing bad happened. That’s how the trap works.
Money came in. Attention came in. I posted, I laughed, I looked good.
I told myself, "See? God is just too strict. I’m fine."
But deep inside, peace was already packing its bags. I just didn’t notice yet.
Disobedience always pays you in advance before it sends you the bill.
When The Bill Arrived
Then the five minutes ended.
Sleep left me. I’d lie awake with this weight on my chest like I was hiding from God and myself.
The relationship I fought for became the source of my tears. Drama, lies, confusion — everything my mentors warned me about showed up.
Work became dry. Doors closed. Favor disappeared.
I was busy but empty. Connected to people but disconnected from God.
That’s when I understood: disobedience doesn’t destroy you with one blow. It bleeds you slowly.
The Prison
The lowest point was quiet. No crowd. No announcement.
I lost the job. The relationship ended over text. My account was dry.
I sat on my floor and the thought hit me like a brick: "This is the result."
Not God punishing me. Me, choosing me over God.
That’s prison. Prison is waking up every day knowing you did this to yourself. Prison is seeing opportunities pass you because you took a shortcut 2 years ago.
Five minutes of "I’ll do it my way" turned into years of "God, please help me."
The Key
But God didn’t lock the door and throw away the key.
One night I broke. "Lord, I was wrong. I’m sorry. Take over."
Repentance didn’t rewind time. I still had to deal with some of the mess.
But it gave me back peace. It gave me back direction. It gave me back God.
Slowly, He started restoring. Not everything, but enough to show me His mercy is bigger than my mistakes.
If You’re Reading This
Maybe you’re in your "five minutes" right now.
That decision you know God didn’t approve. That relationship. That shortcut. That lie.
Please hear me: Put it down.
Because freedom that starts without God always ends in prison.
But obedience that feels hard for five minutes will give you freedom for a lifetime.
Disobedience feels like freedom for five minutes and prison for five years.
Obedience feels like sacrifice for five minutes and blessing for a lifetime.
Choose wisely.
Your future self is watching the choice you make today.
