THE BILLIONAIRE’SSECRET BRIDE

💍 THE BILLIONAIRE’S SECRET BRIDE

CHAPTER 3 — THE MYSTERIOUS CALL

The mansion was unusually quiet.

The wedding guests had left hours ago, but the decorations still filled the enormous living room. White roses covered the tables, golden candles flickered softly, and the faint smell of the expensive flowers filled the air.

It was supposed to be the happiest night of her life.

Instead, she stood alone in front of the bedroom mirror, staring at her reflection.

She slowly touched the wedding ring on her finger.

She was Mrs. Kingsley now.

But nobody knew the real reason she had agreed to marry Daniel.

Not even Daniel himself.

She closed her eyes and remembered the warning she had received before the wedding.

“Once you become his wife, there is no turning back.”

She had known the risks.

She had still said yes.

A soft knock came from the door.

She quickly turned.

“Come in.”

The door opened, and one of the maids stepped inside.

“Madam, Mr. Kingsley asked me to tell you that dinner will be served shortly.”

She nodded.

“Thank you.”

The maid hesitated before leaving.

“Madam?”

“Yes?”

“There is also a man downstairs asking to see you.”

Her heart skipped.

“Who?”

The maid lowered her voice.

“He said his name is Alexander Black.”

The color immediately disappeared from her face.

“Alexander?”

“Yes, madam.”

She looked toward the bedroom door.

“Did he say why he is here?”

“No. He only said it was urgent.”

She swallowed hard.

“Where is he?”

“He’s waiting in the main hall.”

She nodded slowly.

“Don’t tell Daniel.”

The maid looked surprised.

“Madam?”

“I said don’t tell Daniel.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

The maid left.

She remained frozen for several seconds.

Alexander Black.

Of all the people in the world, why did he have to come tonight?

She took a deep breath and walked toward the door.

But before she could open it, a voice came from behind her.

“Who is Alexander?”

She froze.

Slowly, she turned around.

Daniel stood in the doorway.

His jacket was off, his tie was loosened, and his expression was cold.

He had heard everything.

She forced herself to remain calm.

“Someone I know.”

Daniel raised an eyebrow.

“Someone you know?”

“Yes.”

“Then why did you tell the maid not to tell me?”

She stared at him.

“I didn’t think it was important.”

Daniel stepped closer.

“You’re my wife now. If a strange man comes into my house asking for you, I’d say that’s important.”

She looked away.

“Daniel, please.”

“Please what?”

“I’ll handle it.”

He studied her face.

For the first time since their marriage, Daniel noticed something he hadn’t seen before.

Fear.

She was genuinely afraid.

“Who is he?” he asked again, this time more quietly.

Before she could answer, Daniel’s phone rang.

He pulled it from his pocket.

Unknown Number.

He answered.

“Hello?”

Silence.

Then a deep male voice spoke.

“Congratulations, Daniel.”

Daniel’s expression hardened.

“Who is this?”

“You finally got married.”

“Identify yourself.”

The man chuckled.

“You don’t remember me?”

Daniel’s eyes narrowed.

“No.”

“You will.”

The call ended.

Daniel stared at the screen.

His new wife watched him carefully.

“What did he say?” she asked.

Daniel looked at her.

“Nothing important.”

She knew immediately that he was lying.

Before either of them could say another word, a loud crash came from downstairs.

Daniel immediately turned toward the hallway.

“What was that?”

She grabbed his arm.

“Don’t go down there.”

He looked at her hand around his arm.

“Why?”

“Daniel…”

But he pulled away.

“I need to know what’s happening in my house.”

He rushed downstairs.

She followed behind him.

The main hall was empty.

The front door was wide open.

The wind blew through the curtains, scattering some of the wedding decorations across the floor.

Alexander was nowhere to be seen.

Then Daniel noticed something.

A small black envelope lay on the floor.

He picked it up.

“What’s this?”

She stared at the envelope.

She knew exactly what it was.

“Daniel, don’t open it.”

He looked at her.

“Why?”

“Just give it to me.”

His suspicion grew.

“No.”

He opened the envelope.

Inside was a photograph.

Daniel stared at it.

His face changed.

It was a picture of his new wife standing beside a man he had never seen before.

On the back of the photograph was a message:

YOU DON’T KNOW WHO YOU MARRIED.

Daniel slowly looked up at her.

“What is this?”

She couldn’t answer.

“Who is this man?”

Silence.

Daniel’s voice became colder.

“I asked you a question.”

Suddenly—

BANG!

A gunshot echoed through the mansion.

She screamed.

Daniel immediately grabbed her and pulled her behind him.

“Stay here!”

Another sound came from upstairs.

Daniel looked toward the staircase.

When he turned back, she was gone.

His heart stopped.

“Where is she?”

He searched the hall.

Nothing.

Then he noticed something on the floor.

A white piece of paper.

He picked it up with trembling hands.

There were only five words written on it:

“YOUR WIFE WAS NEVER YOURS.”

Daniel stared at the message.

For the first time that night, fear replaced his anger.

Who had taken his wife?

And more importantly…

Who was she really?
