Faith, patience, determination and hard work are required in life. Prayer and seeking the Lord's guidance, wisdom, favour, strength and success are good and desirable. However, prayer should go hand in hand with action. We must be ready to do our part, trusting God for the rest. This is why the principle of “work and pray” is important.
Prayer brings us into a relationship with God and helps us remember we don't journey alone. In prayer we must recognize that we need to be led by God and to have His strength. We can pray to God to open the right doors to us, to help us make the best choices and to enable us to tackle difficulties. Prayer offers us hope particularly in times of challenge.
However, praying without taking action can prevent us from making progress. As a student, pray for success, but also study your books. To acquire a skill, pray for wisdom and practice. When seeking for opportunities pray for favour, but also prepare yourself so that when opportunity comes, you will be ready.
Hard work is a crucial component of attaining meaningful goals. There are no good results that come from laziness and excuses. It takes sacrifice, discipline, patience, and consistency to succeed. You might experience these times of being tired and discouraged, but you have to remind yourself of the reasons you began.
However, it is important to recognise that hard work does not remove the need to accept that we will not control everything. Even if you have the right preparation, things can still come up when you're least expecting them. It is possible to do your best effort, and then be held up. Good plans can be formulated and then you find out that things don't go exactly as you thought they would. Entering the place of trust in God is where we come in.
Trusting God is to do our best without fear or worry taking control. Do what you can, and then let God take care of the rest. Let not the uncertainty bring ruin about you. Keep working, keep praying and be patient.
Sometimes you may feel like you're not making any progress. Don't assume that if you can't see the results right away, then there are no results. There are some things that take time. It takes time for a seed to grow into a tree. Similarly, what you do now will help you be successful the next day.
Don't compare your ride to anyone else. There is no universal pathway, opportunity or timing. Pay attention to duty, don't criticize yourself. The important thing is to stick to your goal and make positive moves.
Prayer is no substitute for responsibility, hard work is no substitute for faith. They can play together. Pray and go in that direction in which you are directed. Ask for strength and press on. Pray for opportunities and be ready for them.
Work and pray. Do your part diligently, be patient, and put your trust in God. You can't always know how it's going to go down, but you can decide to be hopeful and determined. Continue sowing seeds of effort, faith, discipline and persistence. Those seeds have the potential to yield a crop over time.
Do not cease to pray, but do not cease to work. Do everything you can with what you have now, and trust God with what you don't have now. Do what you can, wait for Him and keep going.
