Life is a complicated thing that has choices, challenges, opportunities, failures and successes. Each person has their own journey to take and no one can take another person's journey. I have realized that I am responsible for making choices in my own life and that my life is my own. My life, my rules and my attitude is how I live, think and react to life around me.
My rules do not imply that I don't respect people or take advice. Rather it means that I know myself, recognize what I want, and have the courage to make decisions based on my values. Opinions will always differ about my life. Some may agree with me, some may disagree. Yet I have found myself unable to live my life to please all people.
It is my responsibility to manage my life. When I get something wrong, I need to learn from my error. When I make it, I have to stay humble. Failure means I need to get up and face the challenge again. If I blame others for all my problems, then this won't make me stronger. Responsibility gives me discipline, maturity and confidence.
I have a certain attitude that I take with me throughout my life and it is one of the most important things that I take. Sometimes I can't decide what will happen to me, but at least I can decide how I react. When there is a problem, I take a positive attitude. I opt to learn from others' failures instead of getting bitter. Failure is not the end of my journey is the thought I use when I fail.
Having a positive attitude does not come with the expectation that I cannot ever be sad, afraid or disappointed. That is, I'm not going to let those feelings take over my whole life. I can accept challenging times and remain optimistic that things will get better.
I've also learned that it’s possible to kill happiness by comparing. People have different experiences. It may be someone else will be successful sooner than me, and perhaps I will be successful at something that they haven't. So, I would rather concentrate on myself rather than continually comparing myself with others. My aim is to be better than I was yesterday.
There always will be people who misunderstand me. People will make judgment calls on what I do without knowing my story. I would rather focus on those goals and my personality than on trying to prove myself to anyone.
I wish to make my life an example of confidence, discipline, kindness, courage and determination. I want my attitude to out-sound my situation. I am not seeking to be destroyed, but to be built up.
I can't control everything, but I can control my choices, my mind and my attitude. I will keep on learning, growing, forgiving, dreaming & moving forward.
This is my life. That is my decision. This is my attitude. I will be living my life responsibly, standing up confidently, and continue moving forward.
