It was a bright Saturday morning. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and the whole street looked peaceful. I woke up feeling very happy because I had no school that day.
After taking my bath and eating breakfast, I decided to go outside and play football with my friends. I quickly wore my clothes and picked up my football boots. I was about to leave the house when my mother called me.
“Please, stay indoors today,” she said.
I looked at her with surprise. “Why, Mum?”
She smiled and said, “I just have a strange feeling about today. Please listen to me.”
I did not understand what she meant, but I decided to stay. My friends later came to the house and called me to come outside.
“Come on! We are waiting for you,” one of them shouted.
I wanted to go badly, but I remembered my mother’s words. So I told them I was not coming.
They laughed at me and called me boring. I simply smiled and went back inside.
About thirty minutes later, I heard a loud noise from outside. It sounded like people were running and shouting. I quickly went to the window to see what was happening.
I saw many people moving quickly along the street. Some were running into their houses, while others were closing their doors.
I became worried and ran to call my mother.
“What is happening?” I asked.
She looked outside and became serious. She told me that there had been a fight between two groups of young men not far from our street. The situation had caused fear, and everyone was being advised to remain indoors until things became calm.
My heart began to beat faster.
I immediately remembered my friends. They had gone to play football in another street. I became very worried about them.
My mother told me not to go outside because it could be dangerous. I stayed beside her while we waited.
After some time, the noise became quieter. People slowly came out of their houses, but we remained indoors for a little longer.
Later that afternoon, my friends returned safely. When they saw me, they laughed and said, “You were lucky to stay at home!”
I smiled because I now understood why my mother had asked me to stay indoors.
That day taught me an important lesson. Sometimes, we may not understand why our parents give us certain instructions. We may even think they are stopping us from having fun. But parents often have more experience and may notice dangers that we do not see.
If I had ignored my mother, I could have found myself in a difficult situation.
Since that day, whenever my parents advise me to stay indoors or avoid a certain place, I listen carefully.
I still enjoy going outside, playing football, and spending time with my friends. However, I have learned that safety should always come first.
That Saturday started like an ordinary day, but it became a day I would never forget.
And that was the reason why I decided to stay indoors.
