BE NOT DISMAYED

BE NOT DISMAYED

Life is full of challenges, difficulties, and unexpected situations that can make us afraid and discouraged. Sometimes, we face problems that seem greater than our strength. We may experience financial difficulties, sickness, disappointment, rejection, or the loss of someone we love. In such moments, it is easy to lose hope. However, God’s Word encourages us to remain strong and trust Him. The message, “Be not dismayed,” reminds us that God is always present to help His children.

MEANING OF BE NOT DISMAYED

To be dismayed means to be greatly troubled, frightened, confused, or discouraged by a difficult situation. Therefore, to be dismayed is to allow our circumstances to weaken our courage and confidence. When God says, “Be not dismayed,” He encourages us not to surrender to fear because He is with us.

Isaiah 41:10 declares, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God.” This verse reveals an important truth: our confidence should not depend on the absence of problems but on the presence of God. Even when life becomes difficult, we can remain hopeful because God has promised to strengthen and uphold us.

GOD IS ALWAYS WITH US

One of the greatest reasons believers should not be dismayed is that God has promised never to abandon His people. In Joshua 1:9, God commanded Joshua to be strong and courageous, reminding him that the Lord would be with him wherever he went.

Joshua had the responsibility of leading the Israelites into the Promised Land after Moses’ death. It was a challenging assignment, but God assured him of His presence. Similarly, God may give us responsibilities that appear difficult, but we must remember that He is able to help us fulfil His purpose.

Psalm 23:4 also teaches that even when we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we need not fear evil because God is with us. His presence gives us courage in the darkest moments of life.

DO NOT ALLOW CHALLENGES TO DESTROY YOUR FAITH

Being a Christian does not mean that we will never experience difficulties. Rather, it means that we have God to depend on when difficulties arise. Jesus told His disciples in John 16:33 that they would experience tribulation in the world, but they should be of good cheer because He had overcome the world.

Therefore, we must not interpret every difficulty as evidence that God has abandoned us. Sometimes, we may not understand what He is doing, but we can continue to trust His wisdom and faithfulness.

The story of David in 1 Samuel 30:6 provides a powerful example. When David and his men faced a terrible situation at Ziklag, David was greatly distressed. Nevertheless, he strengthened himself in the Lord his God. Instead of surrendering to despair, he sought God’s direction and received help.

How to Overcome Dismay

First, strengthen your faith through the Word of God. Read and meditate on biblical promises that remind you of His faithfulness.

Second, pray instead of allowing worry to control your heart. Philippians 4:6–7 encourages believers to present their requests to God through prayer and thanksgiving.

Third, remember God’s past faithfulness. Reflecting on previous victories can encourage you to trust Him in present difficulties.

Finally, remain patient and obedient. Do not make decisions based on fear or discouragement. Seek godly counsel and take practical steps while trusting God for direction.

In conclusion beloved, be not dismayed, for God has not forgotten you. The situation you face today is not greater than His power. When you feel weak, He can strengthen you; when you feel confused, He can guide you; and when you feel afraid, He can give you peace.

Remember the promise in Isaiah 41:10: God will strengthen you, help you, and uphold you with His righteous right hand. Therefore, keep praying, keep believing, and keep moving forward in faith. Your circumstances may change, but God remains faithful. Be not dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you.
