There are uncertainties, challenges and battles that we can't always see or understand in life. Life is challenging, frightening, disappointing, ill, and spiritually difficult for all of us every day. Throughout all these difficulties, one of the most important things to have is the protection of God. When we are covered by His name, we find hope and courage and confidence in the presence of our great God.
The name of the LORD is a strong tower the father of justice runs into, and is safe (Proverbs 18:10). The name of the Lord is a powerful scripture that reminds us of the name "authority, strength and faithfulness! God is like a strong tower that protects people from enemies during a fight; He protects us when we are in trouble. His protection is not based on our human strength but on His unlimited power.
His name doesn't protect us from problems, it is our protection from those problems. In all the faithful Christians have a few moments of weakness, trials and persecutions. But we can be sure that God will never desert the ones who trust in Him. He is near to us and strengthens us in our time of fear and grace through our time of struggle.
The name of Jesus has lots of power in it. The Bible tells us in Philippians 2:9-10 that God has highly exalted Jesus and that He has given Him a name higher than every name. All the knees of those who believe should bow at the name of Jesus, in heaven, on earth, under the earth. So we are reminded once more that there is no power on earth greater than the power of Christ.
So, as believers, we should know how to and practice calling on His Name with faith, reverence and understanding. The name of Jesus is not some magic word to throw around in our endeavors; it is a reminder to us of the Person, the Power and the Authority of our Saviour. We are confident because we know Him, we believe His Word, and we do what He wants us to do.
Moreover, when we are protected by His name, we must keep close to Him. We grow in faith through prayer, scripture reading, obedience and fellowship with God. His reminders bring us comfort when we hear the whisper of fear... He is near. His peace can keep our hearts and minds when the storms of our lives arise against us.
It is said in Psalm 91:2, “He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” How comforting this is to know! We don't know what the future will bring but we know the One who brings the future. Our security is not in riches or rank, not in friends or friendliness, not in human understanding. Our final trust is in God.
My beloved, don't let fear take over you. Don't lose faith in the conflict that you have. Keep in mind that your circumstances are not greater than your God. Hold to His promises and rely on His everlasting love; Go on walking in uprightness.
The storm can come and you don't have to encounter it alone. Stay in Christ, have faith in His great name, and have His word, His word of grace, strengthen your heart. May your life be lived out continually through the faith of a person who feels that there is hope, peace and everlasting security through Jesus Christ.
Prayer: God's Name, protect me. Build my faith, direct my path and keep me faithful throughout my life. May Your presence be my hiding place, Your Word my solace. Amen.
