🖤 The Girl Who Refused to Give Up
Written by Raven Noir ✍🏽🐦⬛
Amara had always dreamed of becoming a successful writer. She wanted to publish books that touched people’s hearts and earn enough money to give her mother a comfortable life. However, her journey was not as easy as she had imagined.
At twenty years old, Amara watched her friends move forward while she struggled to find her own path. Some had entered university, others had found jobs, and a few were already achieving their dreams.
Meanwhile, she spent her mornings helping her mother sell vegetables at the market and her evenings writing stories in an old notebook.
One afternoon, she overheard two women talking about her.
“That girl is still here? I thought she would have gone to university by now,” one woman said.
The other laughed. “Not everyone is destined for greatness.”
Amara pretended not to hear them, but their words followed her home. That night, she sat beside her window, staring at the unfinished story in her notebook.
“Maybe they are right,” she whispered. “Perhaps my dreams are too big for someone like me.”
Tears filled her eyes as she considered giving up.
Suddenly, her mother entered the room and noticed her sadness.
“What’s wrong, my daughter?” she asked.
Amara explained everything, including her fear that she would never become successful.
Her mother listened quietly before taking her hand.
“Amara, do you know what I regret most about my younger years? I regret allowing my circumstances to convince me that I wasn’t capable of achieving my dreams.”
She paused and smiled gently.
“Your journey may be different from everyone else’s, but that doesn’t mean you are failing. Never reject yourself before life has given you a chance.”
Those words changed something inside Amara.
The following morning, she decided to take her writing seriously. She studied other writers, practised her grammar, and wrote whenever she had free time. Even when nobody noticed her work, she continued.
Months passed without much success. Sometimes, she felt discouraged, but she remembered her mother’s advice and kept going.
One evening, she published a story about a mother who sacrificed everything for her daughter. She almost deleted it because she feared people would laugh at her writing. Instead, she gathered her courage and pressed the publish button.
The next morning, she discovered that hundreds of people had read her story. Messages filled her notifications, and readers shared how deeply her words had touched them.
One comment made her cry:
“Your story reminded me that I shouldn’t give up on my dreams. Thank you.”
For the first time, Amara realised that her words could make a difference.
A year later, she received an opportunity to publish her first collection of stories. When she held her book, she remembered the girl who had once doubted herself.
She had not achieved everything she wanted, but she was no longer afraid of beginning.
Amara placed a copy of her book in her mother’s hands.
“You did it, my daughter,” her mother whispered proudly.
Amara smiled. “I’m only getting started, Mama.”
From that day forward, she understood that success wasn’t about reaching the finish line before everyone else. It was about having the courage to continue, even when the road was difficult.
Moral: Never let other people’s opinions determine your future. Your journey is your own, and slow progress is still progress. Believe in yourself, remain patient, and never give up on the person you hope to become.
Your story isn’t over just because this chapter is difficult. 🖤
