"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son." — John 3:16
Before I knew His name, before I called in prayer,
before I understood the weight of sin I carried,
He saw the cross and chose it, He saw the thorns and wore them there,
He saw my chains and decided I was worth the cross He carried.
They nailed His hands, the hands that formed the earth and sea,
they pierced His side, the heart that beats for every soul,
He hung between two thieves, bearing shame for you and me,
exchanging His perfection for the wreckage we made whole.
"He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities." Isaiah 53:5
He didn't die because He had to, He died because He chose,
love wasn't forced upon Him, it was willingly displayed,
He looked down through the ages, saw my sin, and still He rose
to meet it with forgiveness, with a ransom fully paid.
"The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost." — Luke 19:10
I was the lost sheep wandering, far from the Shepherd's voice,
I was the prodigal returning with nothing left to give,
but grace was never measured by how good was my choice —
He died so that a sinner, undeserving, still could live.
"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free." Galatians 5:1
So now I walk unshackled from the guilt I used to wear,
no longer bound by failure, no longer bound by shame,
the cross became the answer to every silent prayer,
the empty tomb the proof that love knows my name.
"If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." — John 8:36
He died to set me free, not halfway, not in part,
not just from future judgment, but from chains I used to hold,
He gave His life so freedom could finally fill my heart,
so I could live unburdened, forgiven, and made whole.
So I will live in gratitude for a love I cannot earn,
for a grace that reached the darkest corners of my past,
for a Savior who knew dying was the only way I'd learn
that His love, once given freely, was always meant to last.
