The day will come, when you will realise that no one is coming to save you. Not because people don't care, but because everybody has battles of their own. It's painfully difficult to come to that realization, but it may also be the start of your strength.
I waited for a long, long time.
I waited until I noticed how tired I was. I was waiting for a chance to present itself. I waited for a friend to make things better, a family member to fix my problems and life to be a little easier.
I told myself each day, "There will be a change today.
The days did pass, however; there was no change.
When it was late one night after yet another discouraging day I was left to my own devices in my room. I thought to myself, "I've been waiting too long for someone else to fix me up. I had blamed circumstances, blamed people who let me down, even blamed God that he did not respond to my prayers the way I had hoped.
So I had a moment of clarity.
There was no one to come and save me.
Initially I was scared by the idea. But after a time, a thing dawned upon me: maybe, I was not to be saved by another person. Maybe I should get up and assume the responsibilities of a life that had been given to me.
This was the night when I chose.
I would not wait any longer.
I would go from begging people to believe in me. I would no longer let rejection affect my value. I would not complain about closed doors anymore and begin to search for doors that I could open.
It wasn't easy.
I failed. I made mistakes. I began things that I could not fix. At some times doubt came back and whispered, "Give up, I need to give up.Sometimes doubt reared its head and whispered, "I need to give up, I need to give up. However, every time I fell, I would tell myself that progress doesn't have to be perfect.
I began to take baby steps.
I gained some new knowledge. I got more disciplined. I prayed more heartily. I was more selective about the individuals that I introduced. I put away the tool of comparison.I abandoned the measuring stick.
Gradually, slowly, things started to change.
Not because someone suddenly came to get me, but because I finally resolved to get myself out of the waiting game.
Found that some strength is unseen. Strength requires getting up when you're down. Sometimes it's the other way around, it's ten rejections after it sends another application. Sometimes it's when people make you feel worthless all the time, you walk away. Sometimes it's just saying to yourself, “I will not give up.”
That day I learned one of life's most important lessons: Most of what happens to you you can't control, but you can control what you do after it happens.
No one should be there to carry you through all the hard times. Not everyone will be able to get you through every battle. You can opt to stand, though.
But when you rise to your feet, you might find something beautiful!
You were more than strong than you thought.
My day that I knew no one was coming to save me was not the day of my life's end.
It was the day I finally began saving myself.
