There are so many things I want to do, especially when it comes to social media. I think about posting on TikTok, creating content and putting myself out there more. Sometimes I get excited about the idea, but then another part of me starts asking questions.
What if it doesn't work?
What if nobody watches?
What if people don't like what I post?
What if I have no follower?
What if I start and eventually give up?
These questions can make starting something feel much harder than it actually is.
I have realized that sometimes the biggest thing stopping us isn't the lack of opportunity. It is fear. We are afraid because we don't know what will happen, and because we don't know what will happen, we convince ourselves that we need to be more prepared before we begin.
I Am a Planner
I am actually someone who loves to plan. Before doing something, I like to think about it, organize my thoughts and have an idea of how I want things to go.
Planning can be helpful, but I am beginning to understand that there is a difference between planning and postponing. Yeah
Sometimes, we can spend so much time trying to create the perfect plan that we never actually take the first step.
There will always be something we don't know.
There will always be something that could go wrong.
And there will always be a reason to wait a little longer.
But if I keep waiting until I know exactly how everything will turn out, I may never start.
Starting From Where I Am
One thing I keep reminding myself is: start from where you are, one step at a time.
I don't need to become the best content creator before making my first post. I don't need to have everything figured out. I don't need to know whether every video will perform well.
I just need to start.
Maybe my first post won't get many views. Maybe the second one won't either. But I can learn from each attempt. I can improve my content, keep learning and understand what works for me.
Starting doesn't mean I have to be perfect.
It means I am giving myself the opportunity to grow.
But What If It Actually Works?
This is the question I want to start asking myself more often.
I am so used to thinking, "What if it doesn't work?" that I sometimes forget to consider the other possibility.
What if it actually works?
What if the thing I'm afraid to start becomes something I'm proud of?
What if the video I almost didn't post reaches someone who needs to see it?
What if I discover a talent I didn't know I had?
What if taking that first step opens a door I never expected?
There is no guarantee that everything I try will succeed. But there is also no guarantee that it will fail.
And I don't want fear to make that decision for me.
I Am Learning to Face the Unknown
I don't think being brave means having no fear. Sometimes being brave simply means admitting that you are scared and choosing to move forward anyway.
I am still learning how to do that.
I want to stop allowing the unknown to control my decisions. I want to give myself permission to try things, make mistakes, learn and try again.
Maybe I won't always get the results I want immediately. That's okay.
At least I will know that I tried.
So, if there is something you have been thinking about starting, don't wait until you feel completely ready. Start from where you are. Take one step at a time.
And when that little voice asks, "What if it doesn't work?"
Ask yourself another question:
"But what if it actually does?"
