WHAT ARE YOU FEEDING

Letters to My Friend 🤍

014: What Are You Feeding?

Dear Friend,

There is something quietly frightening about the heart:

It grows whatever you keep feeding it.

Feed fear, and it learns to speak louder.

Feed bitterness, and yesterday’s wound begins to feel like home.

Feed comparison, and someone else’s life will always make yours feel insufficient.

Feed anger, and eventually everything begins to feel like an offence.

But feed faith…

And slowly, even in the dark, you begin to believe there is still light.

We often pray, “God, change my heart.”

But sometimes I wonder,

What are we giving our hearts to consume every day?

The conversations we keep having.

The people we constantly listen to.

The things we watch.

The thoughts we entertain.

The places we go.

The words we repeat to ourselves when nobody is listening.

The Bible says:

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)

Dear friend, perhaps growth isn't always about adding something new.

Sometimes, it is about starving what has been quietly destroying you.

You cannot keep feeding fear and expect peace to flourish.

You cannot keep feeding resentment and expect your heart to remain soft.

You cannot keep feeding comparison and expect contentment to grow.

And you cannot continually neglect your spirit and wonder why your faith feels weak.

What we consume may seem insignificant at first. One thought. One conversation. One habit. One more comparison. One more negative word about yourself.

But repeated things become patterns.

Patterns become habits.

And habits can eventually shape the way we see ourselves, others, and even God.

That is why guarding your heart matters.

Sometimes you need to change what you are listening to.

Sometimes you need to step away from conversations that constantly fill you with negativity.

Sometimes you need to stop revisiting an old wound just because it is familiar.

Sometimes you need to put down your phone, open your Bible, and let God's voice become louder than everything else.

So tonight, pause.

Be honest with yourself.

What have I been feeding?

Because whatever you consistently feed will eventually grow strong enough to influence the way you think, live, and respond.

And perhaps the question isn't only, “What do I need to change?”

Perhaps it is also:

“What do I need to stop feeding?”

Maybe your heart doesn't need more noise.

Maybe it needs more of God.

Reflection 🌿

What has been receiving the most attention from your heart lately. Your fears, your wounds, the world around you, or God?

Prayer 🤍

Father, search my heart. Show me what I have been feeding that does not belong there. Give me the wisdom to guard my heart and the discipline to feed my spirit with what draws me closer to You. Let my heart grow in faith, love, purity, and truth. Teach me to choose what gives life and to starve what pulls me away from You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

With hope always,

Your Friend. 🤍
