I was quietly sitting in my office, sorting through some files on my desk when my phone vibrated.
I glanced at the screen and noticed a message from an unknown number.
"Amara, I am sorry."
I frowned, wondering who could have sent it. I checked the number, but it didn't look familiar. Thinking it was probably a mistake, I ignored the message and returned to my work.
A few minutes later, my phone vibrated again.
"Amara, please give me another chance."
This time, I couldn't ignore it. Who was this person, and what exactly did he want from me?
I picked up my phone and typed, "Who is this?"
His reply came almost immediately.
"Amara, have you forgotten me that quickly?"
I stared at the screen, trying to remember who could possibly be behind the messages.
Then suddenly, a familiar name flashed through my mind.
Daniel.
Could it really be him? My fingers trembled slightly as I typed, "Daniel, is that you?"
His response came almost instantly.
"My love."
I slowly lowered my phone, my heart pounding.
It was Daniel, the man I had once loved, the man I had tried so hard to forget. After everything that had happened between us, I never imagined he would contact me again.
When the misunderstanding happened between Daniel and me, I was deeply hurt. I didn't want to listen to his explanations or give him another chance. I deleted his contact and blocked his number. I admit I didn't give him the opportunity to explain himself properly, but at that time, I believed walking away was the best decision. Eventually, I moved on with my life. Now, Daniel was suddenly back, asking for another chance. I stared at his messages, wondering what he expected me to do.
Did he think I was still waiting for him?
It was too late. I leaned back in my chair, thinking about Adrian.
Adrian was a man who wanted every part of me to himself. His possessiveness was something I had come to recognize, and although I loved him, there were times when it frightened me. I imagined what would happen if he discovered Daniel's messages.
Would he want to know who Daniel was?
Would he ask why I had never mentioned him before?
Or would he assume I had been hiding something from him?
I had no idea how Adrian would react, and the uncertainty made me uncomfortable. I wasn't interested in returning to Daniel, but I knew explaining that to my husband might not be as easy as it sounded.
The truth was that Adrian and I had never really discussed our past relationships. I hadn't told him everything about Daniel, and he hadn't told me everything about his own past. We had entered our relationship carrying secrets and experiences we rarely talked about.
At the time, I didn't think those things mattered anymore. But now, Daniel's unexpected return made me realize that our pasts could eventually become a problem. I picked up my phone and considered telling Adrian about the messages.
I wanted to be honest with him, but I was afraid of creating unnecessary tension.
How could I explain everything without making my already possessive husband suspicious?
I didn't know what to do.
My phone vibrated again.
I opened Daniel's message.
"Amara, I know I hurt you. But there is something you need to know. Please, just hear me out."
I stared at the screen.
Something I needed to know?
What could Daniel possibly have to tell me after all this time?
Before I could respond, another notification appeared.
It was Adrian.
"Baby, are you still at the office? I'll be coming to pick you up."
My heart skipped.
I quickly replied, "Yes, baby. I'm still at the office."
Then I placed my phone on the desk and stared into space.
Daniel was back, and Adrian knew nothing about him.
I loved my husband, and I had no intention of returning to my past. But I couldn't shake the feeling that Daniel's return would change something between us.
