Letters to My Friend š¤
21: You're Allowed to Have a Bad Day
Dear Friend,
Today doesn't have to be a testimony.
Maybe today was just... bad. š
You woke up tired.
Something annoyed you.
Someone disappointed you.
Your plans didn't work out.
You made a mistake.
You tried to be productive, but somehow, nothing seemed to go right.
You smiled anyway.
You answered the messages.
You showed up when you could.
You told people you were fine.
And now you're lying in bed wondering why you don't feel particularly spiritual tonight.
Friend, breathe.
You're human.
Sometimes, we put so much pressure on ourselves to always be okay that even having a bad day starts feeling like a spiritual failure.
We think we should pray more.
Believe more.
Smile more.
Be grateful enough.
Have enough faith not to feel disappointed.
But having a difficult day doesn't mean you've lost your faith.
You can love God and still be tired.
You can trust Him and still cry.
You can be grateful and still admit, "Lord, today was just a lot."
Faith doesn't mean pretending that nothing hurts.
Sometimes, faith looks like coming to God exactly as you are with the tears, frustration, questions, disappointment, and exhaustion.
Even Jesus wept.
David had moments when his soul was overwhelmed. Elijah became exhausted. Job had days when he wished he had never been born.
The Bible doesn't hide the messy parts of people's lives, and God didn't stop loving them because they had messy days.
So maybe tonight, you don't need another motivational speech.
Maybe you just need to rest.
Drink some water.
Take a shower.
Put your phone down for a while.
Cry if you need to.
Sleep early.
Take a deep breath.
And talk to God honestly.
You don't have to dress up your emotions before bringing them to Him.
Tell Him you're tired.
Tell Him you're disappointed.
Tell Him you don't understand.
Tell Him today was hard.
He already knows, anyway.
"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."
1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)
Tomorrow doesn't have to carry the weight of today.
One difficult day doesn't erase your progress.
One bad moment doesn't define your character.
One unanswered prayer doesn't mean God has forgotten you.
And one day where you didn't accomplish everything doesn't make you a failure.
Sometimes, surviving the day is enough.
So tonight, give yourself permission to breathe.
Rest without guilt.
You can begin again tomorrow.
And if nobody has told you today:
You're allowed to have a bad day.
Just don't let one bad day convince you that you have a bad life.
Tomorrow is another page.
And by God's grace, you get to write on it.
Reflection
Have you been allowing yourself to be human, or have you been demanding perfection from yourself?
Prayer š¤
Lord, thank You for caring about the little things that weigh on me. Help me to bring my honest emotions to You without shame. Teach me to rest when I need to rest and to remember that one difficult day doesn't mean You have left me. Give me peace tonight, strength for tomorrow, and grace to begin again. Amen.
With hope always,
Your Friend. š¤
