Before You Become a Wife, Become a Woman of Purpose

Marriage is a gorgeous trip but it shouldn't be the one and only destination for the woman's life. A woman should get to know herself first, know her values, build her character and find out what God has created her for before she becomes a wife. Marriage can introduce a woman to the concept of marriage but preparation is what will bring her to the way of marriage.

Make sure you are one of God's plans before you become a wife.

A woman of purpose realizes that love is not a defining part of who she is. She doesn't value herself based on a husband or ring or a wedding. She knows that she has a life to grow, abilities to utilize, dreams to realize, and responsibilities to fulfill. Marriage should be a part of her journey, not an alternative.

A lot women place great emphasis on their wedding day. They consider clothing, location, flowers, invitations, pictures, and the party. These things can make the day memorable, but marriage is not decorated. Once the festival is over, life starts again. There will be choices to be made, duties to be done, differences to be settled, money to be spent, and times that will call for patience and understanding.

That's why it's important to have a good character.

Become a good communicator before you get married. Learn how to listen without getting defensive right away. Know how to say sorry for mistakes and to forgive people when they have hurt you. Connect with and learn to communicate in a healthy way, rather than be swayed by anger, fear or frustration.

Maturity in emotions is crucial in preparation for marriage. A mature woman knows when to accept and disagree. She knows that communication is not a contest to see who's right, it is a process for understanding and solutions.

A woman of purpose also appreciates the value of making good choices. Avoid selecting a husband because you are afraid of being alone. Never let social pressure, family pressure, and age or a fleeting moment of excitement dictate permanent decisions. See beyond outward appearances and assurances. Focus on character, responsibility, values, respect, faith and treating others.

Meanwhile, take the time to get ready to be a good partner. Two individuals who are eager to develop are needed for marriage. Learn financial discipline. Develop useful skills. Continue education and careers plans as appropriate. Build healthy friendships. Take care of your spiritual life. Grow as a person, not in anticipation of marriage.

A woman of purpose does not get lost in marriage. She understands partnership. She can be supportive of her husband and yet utilize her gifts. She has the chance to create a family and to pursue meaningful goals. That love should be based on mutual respect, sacrifice, encouragement and responsibility.

Most importantly, let the relationship with God influence your character. With a sound foundation, you'll be better equipped to make educated choices about relationships and future.

Therefore, instead of asking, "When will I be a wife?," ask the question, "Who am I becoming?

Plan for the honeymoon and other than that. Get ready for marriage. Prepare for responsibility. Prepare for growth. Prepare for partnership.

Before you're a wife, be a woman of purpose, because the woman you are will affect the home, relationships and future you create.
