The Husband You Become Matters More Than the Wedding

The union of two individuals is frequently viewed as a lovely start. Elegant clothes, family gathering, photos, music, food and promises, there are all things that create unforgettable memories. But amidst all of the questions that are being asked, there is one that needs to be addressed: Who are you becoming before you become a husband?

There are many men who get ready so much for a wedding but little time for marriage. They consider the location of the ceremony, their attire, the expenses and the presence of guests. These are all things to consider but they don't make or break the quality of the life to come. There is a difference between a beautiful wedding and a marriage that needs character and patience, and is responsible, communicator, sacrificing and committed, a journey of a lifetime on which you will travel.

Being a husband is more than having a title. It is your duty to love, respect, support and live with your wife. It takes a man to realize that marriage is not a contestation of who is right, but rather a learning process, growth, forgiveness, and communication of both.

The husband you end up with is a product of a lot more than just the “I do” moment. The type of husband you will become depends on your habits, attitude, emotional maturity, financial discipline, relationship with people and your ability to handle responsibility. One's character does not change because they become married. It uncovers and amplifies that which is present.

Thus, marrying preparation must start from the development of the individual. The man who is trying to be a good husband needs to learn to communicate honestly rather than avoid the difficult conversation. He needs to learn to manage his anger rather than letting anger run his life. He needs to learn that he has to stick to his decisions and be accountable for his errors.

The "strong man" does not necessarily mean the man that has it all sorted out. He is a man that is teachable. He listens. He accepts correction. He knows that his wife isn't his adversary. He sees her aspirations, respects her opinions and allows her to evolve.

Financial obligation is also a critical aspect. Marriage is not just about the income of a man. This is also the story of how he manages himself with what he has, and how cleverly he does it. The over-spending and irresponsible man or the one who is unwilling to plan can put excess strain in his house. Preparing a man for what is to come is possible through learning discipline, saving, budgeting and planning.

Above all, instill good values in a man before he marries. Charless love can become uncharmed love. Things can change, situations can become challenging, feelings can shift. However, in difficult times of the year, the character, commitment and values of those around you can be greater.

Therefore, don't ask "Who will I marry", ask yourself "Who am I becoming"? Instead of looking for the perfect girl, put in the effort to become the kind of guy who is able to maintain a healthy relationship.

The marriage may be your introduction to marriage, but your character will affect your journey afterward. Do not neglect the man who will be the centrepiece of the wedding, by spending all your energy in getting ready. Get married first, wear a ring later.
