GROWING UP IN AN AFRICAN HOME

GROWING UP IN AN AFRICAN HOME

Growing up in an african home isn't just growing up, it's training, it's survival, it's funny, dramatic & comedy & it's love wrapped in shouting.

In an african home, we are raised by everybody, that's how we live.

Growing up in an african home is a school of life.

Childhood is sweet but never soft.

You learn about life & love, even without fully understanding it.

If you grew in african home, you would understand that love is loud even without saying it especially from our parents, you would understand that respect is a curriculum & broomstick is a teacher & comparison is the national anthem.

If you grew in an african home, you would understand that food is an event & religion is compulsory, you would understand that privacy does not exist & african mothers & their friends are CCTV cameras.

We grew up strong & we grew with the community.

Growing up in an african home maybe hard, it's strict & confusing & sometimes you feel the love wasn't enough.

Finally, I'm now a grown adult now & gradually understanding what everything meant.

I understand the reasons why mom shouted & why dad was strict.

I understand the restrictions from what I wanted simply because I have seen others doing & stuff like that.

I thought everything was wickedness, but I understand now, they were trying to raise a child who would survive the wicked world & they succeeded.

We laughed about the beatings, the africa mother slippers & father cane (koboko) but deep down, we're grateful.

Growing up in an african home was never about having too much, it's just hit differently, it's a vibe itself, it's about have each other's back.

You would never understand until you have lived in it.

In an african home, you learn to share everything, you learn about life early even without fully understanding what it's means, you learn to strong before your time, you learn silence is not allowed & then there are the legends.

Let me remind you about it. "The legends"

The legend of "I would slap that spirit out of you."

The legend of "Do you think I'm your mate."

The legend of "When I was your age, I trekked from home to school 20 kilometers."

The legend of "Pick that thing with your mouth." - even when your hands are free.

Only africa children understand.

The beautiful part growing up in an african home is you grow with the fear of God, you grow with respect & contentment & most Importantly, you grow knowing family is everything.

If you grew up in an african home, you are blessed already.

In an africa entirely, we have name for almost everything.

Growing up in an african home, it's tough but it's build you, it's gives you love, value, family & a sense of a community.

No matter where life takes you, the memories never leave & the lessons stayed, growing up in an african home is a blessing in disguise.
