LOVE'S DISAPPOINTED SPARK

LOVE'S DISAPPOINTED SPARK

Love arrived like a spark,

small but bright,

lighting corners

I thought were dark.

I watched it grow,

fed it with hope,

with promises,

with dreams

I was afraid to name.

You held my hand

like you meant to stay,

and I believed

every word

your lips gave away.

My heart became a home,

and I gave you the key,

never imagining

you would leave

without looking back at me.

Then something changed.

The warmth became distance,

the laughter became silence,

and your eyes

stopped searching for mine.

The spark burned,

but it no longer felt

like sunlight.

It felt like a candle

fighting against the wind.

I asked love

why it had to hurt

after making me believe

it could heal.

Love answered,

saying sometimes

the sweetest beginning

can carry

the bitterest ending.

I was disappointed,

not because I loved,

but because I thought

love would choose me

the way I chose it.

I thought forever

was a promise,

not a word

that could disappear

with morning.

Still, I will not hate

the spark that once warmed me.

Even broken light

can teach the heart

how darkness feels.

Perhaps someday,

another spark will come,

not burning,

but glowing gently,

steady enough to stay.

And when it does,

I will love again,

but this time

with wisdom beside my heart,

knowing that love

is not only the fire,

but also the hands

willing to protect its flame.
