There are times when life is hard, and we smile as if it's okay. We laugh with friends, encourage others, do our work and hide our pain from everyone. Sometimes the most intense wars are fought in secret, behind closed doors, and no one will see the tears or hear the cries.
However, the pain that you conceal may be forming the strength that is required for tomorrow.
Things don't always go according to plan. People disappoint us. Relationships end. Dreams fail. Opportunities disappear. Occasionally, despite our best efforts, we fail to achieve the outcomes that we want. These experiences may cause us to feel lost, exhausted, and discouraged. We might even start to ask ourselves, is there ever going to be an improvement to life?
But, not all things are comfortable, and not all things are easy, and not all things can show us lessons in life that all things comfortable and easy can't.
Patience can be learned from pain. Percy could learn perseverance from failure. Rejection can be an educator of self-worth. Being alone can be a lesson in independence. Our experiences with disappointment can help us to learn how to choose wisely among people. All challenging events can help to grow something in us.
This doesn't mean pain is easy, or that we should ignore it or act pretend it doesn't hurt. Don't suppress all your feelings just because you think you are strong. Sometimes strength is in surrendering when you're not doing well. It involves letting yourself feel the feelings, seeking assistance, sharing with a trusted person and permitting yourself to heal.
You don't have to be strong all the time all the time.
There are days when you may feel like giving up. Sometimes your mind can be busier than your heart will allow. At times you might wonder why you are experiencing so much and what do you need to do? In those times, keep in mind that a tough chapter of your life doesn't equal a hard chapter.
You are not where you are now, you are where you will be if you don't do something different.
You don't have to be weak because of the scars you have on your body. They are reminders that you made it through moments you thought you couldn't make it through. Falls and courage to stand up again made you stronger each time. Each time you cried as you kept on going was a testament that your story was not done.
Some will come our way for a reason that you may look back on one day and realize. You may have learned to love yourself after all that heartbreak. Failure could have helped you succeed. You might have been diverted to a better option when you were rejected. Loneliness could be a period of discovery for you of what you are truly made of.
Refrain from giving in to the soreness and believing that you are broken. You're still developing. You are still on your learning curve. You are still developing.
What you suffer from right now could be what you will triumph over next year. A bruise or a sore today can be the encouragement to another to persevere.
So, breathe. Keep believing. Keep moving.
Your tears are not in vain, your scars are not without significance and your struggle does not end your tale. The better you become is the better you get, at least in some of the worst seasons you have to face.
