The world they say is a small place, but not for Thalia. The world to her, was very big. People would always say how they keep bumping into old friends and even classmates from way back, but Thalia had a different story to tell. People simply just vanished for her, like they'd never existed in her space. She was lonely, but she wasn't a lonely person. In her new location, she'd made friends, two friends, and her colleagues at work were nice....or so she liked to think of them.
It was raining early that morning. Thalia stood by her window, a cup of hot choco cupped between her palms, deliberating if she should take her umbrella and head downstairs to the office or call to say she'd be working from home. She disliked rain, so the second option it was. She picked up her phone and called her boss/best friend. Marigold picked up on the last ring.
"Hey bestie, sorry, I was handling some staff issues. What's up?" Marigold spoke as kindly and vibrant as ever
She was simply such a wholesome and sweet soul.
"You are already at the office?" Taly asked as she sipped from her drink
"Oh no, not yet"
"So you will be at the office today?"
"Not really. Will just drop by....breeze in, breeze out you know"
"Well, I'd like to handle my work remotely today, if that's okay by you?" Taly asked respectfully
"Oh, no problem babes. Don't think I'd need you in person today. You do you"
"Alright, thank you"
"Want to grab dinner together later today?"
"If it's still not raining"
"It won't be" Marigold spoke as if as a silent prayer to God.
Thalia smiled and the call ended. She finished her choco and refilled her cup, took out some biscuits and sat down at her desk, to handle some pending important tasks from Marigold, before she could switch to her other side jobs. The patter of rain outside including to the serenity that helped her focus.
It did stop raining and she was seated across her friend at a fine dining restaurant, with sophisticated lighting, having seafood platter.
"Alder is throwing a party for his birthday tomorrow. I happened to run into him on my way here, he asked me to tell you" Marigold spoke as they finished eating.
"Alright. Where would the party be hosted, at his house or....?"
"Tch. You know Alder is always wary of inviting other people to his place. It would have been at his place if he wasn't inviting those other friends of his, you know"
"I still don't understand why he keeps on associating with those friends if he is not the most comfortable around them" Thalia complained
"Girl, no offence, but not everyone just cuts off friends easily"
"I mean, if they make you uncomfortable....well I won't understand, I know"
"Don't worry, Alder is sensible. He will be fine"
"So where exactly will the party be, What's the theme?"
Marigold smiled mischievously "It's a beach night party. Wear your sexiest bikini"
Thalia rolled her eyes at her friend, smiling knowingly.
"What?" Marigold asked, laughing.
"You just love an opportunity" Thalia laughed
"Who doesn't?"
Thalia just shook her head. They cleaned up and went downstairs to head home, but Marigold drew Thalia to a shopping mall. Of course, the fashion Queen herself!
