Michael heard a knock at his door, it was nearly midnight.
He was alone in the house. His parents had gone off to attend a family ceremony, and left him to watch over the house.
The first knock came light.
Knock! Knock!
Michael checked the time on his watch. It was 11:58 p.m.
“Who could that be?” he wondered.
He came to the window and gazed out of it. There was a tall man who was standing at the gate. He was wearing a dark jacket and had a small bag with him.
Michael became nervous.
“Who's that?” he called out through the window.
The stranger said, "I need your help".
It was not Michael who was opening the door. Rather, he asked, “What sort of help?”
My car had a flat tire near your house, I've been walking around for hours and I need to make an important call.”
Michael hesitated. The whole situation was suspicious. But the voice of the man was weary, not menacing.
Michael phoned up his neighbour Mr Samuel and explained what had happened. Mr. Samuel told him that he should not open the door, he will come over.
After several minutes, Mr. Samuel came to the rescue with his flashlight.
He recognized him when he had seen the stranger.
“Wait! I am familiar with this man,” said Mr. Samuel.
The stranger was relieved and smiled.
His name is David,” he explained. “This is the area where I once lived a long time ago.”
David told them that he had come back to the town to look for his younger brother, whom he had not seen in over 20 years. He had been searching for him all day when his car broke down.
Michael had to have sympathy for him.
Mr. Samuel invited David into his house, where they safely made the phone call.
On the next morning, something strange occurred.
So Mr. Samuel got a boy at his house. So Mr Samuel got a boy at his house. He came to a halt, amazed at David's appearance.
“David?”
David turned around.
“Joseph!”
The two brothers looked at one another, and then they hugged each other tightly. They started to shed tears on their faces.
The brothers met, after many years, silently, Michael watched.
Over the years, Joseph had thought that David was gone and that he had forgotten about him. David, however, informed him that he had looked for Joseph many times and he had never seen him.
Everyone was happy when they met again.
When David left, he went to Michael and shook his hand.
He thanked them for choosing not to ignore one in need.” “Because of your kindness, two brothers were united.”
Michael smiled.
What he had learned that night was a valuable lesson: be cautious of those you don't know, but also don't forget that a generous act may bring unexpected blessings.
It was the stranger who had knocked at midnight, but not to cause trouble.
This was the reason he had travelled to find his family and, by a stroke of kindness, he found his family.
