๐น THE DAY I CHOSE MYSELF
There was a time I begged people to stay,
Afraid that their leaving would take my joy away.
I gave them my heart, my time, and my care,
Hoping that one day, they would see how much I was there.
I swallowed my feelings just to keep the peace,
Pretending I was fine while my happiness decreased.
I laughed at their jokes, even when I felt low,
Hiding the parts of me nobody cared to know.
I was always available whenever they called,
But when I needed them, their promises crumbled and fell.
I kept making excuses for the things they would do,
Until I started losing the person I once knew.
Then one quiet morning, something changed inside,
I stopped looking for answers in people who lied.
I realized that love should not make me feel small,
And I shouldn't have to beg to matter at all.
So I began to release what I couldn't control,
And slowly collected the pieces of my soul.
I learned that saying no doesn't make me unkind,
And protecting my peace is not a crime.
Some people will leave when you start setting boundaries,
And some may misunderstand your new priorities.
But you cannot spend your whole life trying to please
Everyone around you while you forget your own needs.
I am learning that solitude isn't always loneliness,
And choosing myself doesn't mean I have less kindness.
I can wish people well without keeping them near,
And walk away from situations that feed my fear.
I don't need revenge, and I don't need applause,
I just want to live without betraying my heart.
I want honest connections, a mind that feels free,
And the courage to become the person I'm meant to be.
Today, I choose growth over desperate attention,
I choose honest love over empty affection.
I choose to forgive without accepting the same pain,
And to find my own sunshine after the rain.
Perhaps I will stumble as I learn to let go,
Perhaps healing will take longer than I know.
But I won't call myself weak for needing time,
Every heart has its season, every soul has its climb.
And if you ever wonder why I seem different today,
It's because I stopped abandoning myself along the way.
I still have a heart that can love and care,
But now I remember that my heart deserves care, too.
I am not becoming heartless; I am becoming wise.
I'm learning to see beyond beautiful lies.
I can love people deeply and still let them go,
Because knowing my worth is something I owe myself to know.
And when I look back at the person I used to be,
I hope she feels proud of the woman she's helping me see.
She survived the confusion, she learned through the pain,
And she finally understood she didn't have to beg to remain.
Today, I choose myselfโnot because others don't matter,
But because my own happiness should not always come after. โค๏ธ
