BE KIND, BUT DON’T BE BLIND: NOT EVERYONE IS NICE

Benevolence is a desirable attribute in anyone. Kindness is expressing love, respect, compassion and understanding for others. But being kind is not synonymous with being foolish nor with letting others take advantage of you. It is possible to be a good-hearted, yet have good judgment! Be kind, but don't be foolish, not all people you meet are nice!

You'll run into various people in life. Some truly want you to be happy, to grow and to succeed. The others can only come around because of what they can get out of you. Today some may smile and tomorrow they may talk bad about you. But it's not the same as to be bittern and suspicious of every person. Rather, it is a matter of learning to get a grasp of man and to have a sense of the distinction of man's hearts.

Not everyone who shows kindness is weak. You can assist someone without giving him/her control over you. It is possible to forgive someone without letting them get away with causing you pain. It's possible to love people and set healthy boundaries. It is okay to say “no” when it's needed, it's not “bad.” Sometimes, in order to preserve your peace, you must set a distance between you and people who are always around you and bringing negativity into your life.

The worst sin is to believe too easily. Not all of those who call you "friend" are really. Not all your supporters are supportive. Others might be more interested in what you can do, where you can go, how much money you have, or what you've accomplished than with your well-being. So, know how to listen, not only to words. Words may be nice but their actions often show what their intentions are.

Wisdom is not synonymous with viciousness. Negativity doesn't have to be responded with negativity. When someone treats you poorly, you can choose to be respectful, while protecting yourself. Knowing the right thing to say at the right time is more effective than being angry at the right time. Your kindness is to be genuine and not for the sake of pleasing others.

Also, keep in mind that you can't please everyone. No matter how well meaning you are, some will take you amiss. There will be some who will criticise you even if you are doing your best. Resist the temptation to let people's opinions and actions destroy the good person you're becoming.

Meanwhile, be open to learning from your experiences. When a person lies to you again and again, disrespects you, or when he or she takes advantage of your good nature, listen to the lesson. Forgiveness doesn't mean that you're supposed to forget patterns. You can say "forgive and forget" and still determine that they should not be able to be in your life in the same way anymore.

The aim is not to be hard hearted. The aim is to have the mind of kindness and wisdom. Continue to help people, to show compassion, to do good but do it wisely.

Remember wisdom is needed to guard a good heart! Respect the other person by being kind, but not blind. Be loving but know your limits. Trust in wise counsel, watch closely and do not let the bad intention of another person turn your good heart into a bitter one. You must be kind, but allow wisdom to lead you in a world in which not everybody is sincere.
