Your friends and family can be very influential to your life. Your circle effects your thoughts, attitudes, decisions, habits, and even your future. That's why you should carefully select your friends and close associates. Some people will come and go in your life, and not all people who consider themselves a friend are.Not all people who come into your life will stay, and not all people who claim to be your friend really are.
A good circle can make you a better man. Your environment of hard workers, disciplined, honest, focused and determined people can inspire you to be better. They can cheer you up when you are down, correct you when you are in the wrong and celebrate your successes without being jealous.
But an incorrect circle can have a detrimental effect on your life. Some may foster a sense of laziness, dishonesty, irresponsibility or choices that may harm future. Sometimes you begin to make decisions just because you want to fit in or be accepted. Before you know it you could end up moving further away from your goals and values.
That's why it's important to be aware who you let near you. Consider: Do these people help me to grow? Do they share my morals? Is it really their desire to have me succeed? Will they be there when I need them with my dreams and my challenges? Do they correct me when I make mistakes, or do they say, "keep on doing that wrong thing?
You don't need to work with a large circle. It doesn't take hundreds of friends to have a fulfilled life. It's better to have a few people who can be counted on than many people, who will introduce confusion, negativity and unnecessary pressure into your life.
Being careful in selecting an appropriate circle isn't about treating people badly, nor is it about thinking that you are better than others. It is a perspective that recognizes the influence that relationships carry. You may be kind to all but selective in choosing those who you truly trust and can rely on to make decisions for you.
Beware of individuals who show up to obtain something from you. Be wary of people who continually discourage you from pursuing your goals; people who compete with you for no reason; people that make it seem like you can't succeed. In the meantime, cherish and value the people who are truly there for you during hard times, who challenge you to be better, and who are there to love you.
Keep in mind, your future is too important to be governed by the wrong company. The individuals with whom you spend the most time will either be pushing you toward your purpose or drawing you away from your purpose.
Thus, select your circle wisely. Get friends around you who have positive attributes and attitudes that inspire growth, build positive character, set healthy boundaries, and genuinely desire your success.
Make sure you surround yourself with the right people, as they will become the people you are tomorrow.
