The broken heart

Chapter One: The Love That Changed Everything

Amara had always believed that true love was beautiful. She dreamed of finding a man who would love her sincerely, protect her heart, and stay with her even when life became difficult. Little did she know that the person she trusted the most would become the reason for her tears.

At twenty-two, Amara was a young woman with a kind heart and a beautiful smile. She lived with her mother in a small town and worked hard to support her family. She was not rich, but she believed that happiness did not depend on money.

One sunny afternoon, she met Daniel at a small restaurant near her workplace. Daniel was handsome, polite, and confident. When their eyes met, he smiled at her, and she quickly looked away.

“Excuse me, beautiful,” Daniel said as he approached her table. “Can I sit here?”

Amara laughed softly. “There are other empty tables.”

“I know, but none of them has someone as interesting as you.”

His words made her smile, and that was how their friendship began.

Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. Daniel called her every morning, sent her sweet messages, and reminded her that she was special. He promised that he would never hurt her.

“I want to marry you someday,” he told her one evening while they watched the sunset.

Amara looked into his eyes. “Please don't promise me forever if you are not ready to stay.”

Daniel held her hand. “I swear, Amara. You are the only woman I want.”

She believed him.

For the first time in her life, Amara allowed herself to dream about a future filled with love.

But happiness does not always last as long as we hope.

Three months later, Daniel began to change. His calls became shorter, his messages became fewer, and he always seemed to have an excuse whenever Amara wanted to see him.

At first, she blamed his busy schedule. She told herself that love required patience. However, deep inside, she knew something was wrong.

One Friday evening, Amara decided to surprise him at his apartment. She bought his favorite food and walked excitedly toward his door.

Before she could knock, she heard a woman's laughter from inside.

Her heart began to beat faster.

She knocked.

Daniel opened the door, and the smile on his face disappeared when he saw her.

“Amara? What are you doing here?”

She looked past him and saw a beautiful woman sitting on his sofa.

“Who is she?” Amara whispered.

Daniel remained silent.

The woman stood up and asked, “Daniel, who is this?”

Amara looked at him, waiting for an explanation. Instead, he lowered his head.

“Amara, I'm sorry. I should have told you earlier. I'm getting married.”

The food slipped from Amara's hands and fell to the floor.

“Married?” she repeated. “What about everything you promised me?”

Daniel rubbed his face. “I never meant to hurt you.”

“Then why did you tell me you loved me?”

He had no answer.

With tears filling her eyes, Amara turned and walked away. Every step felt heavier than the last. The man who had promised to protect her heart had shattered it without a second thought.

That night, she cried in her mother's arms.

“I gave him everything, Mama. Why wasn't my love enough?”

Her mother gently wiped her tears.

“My daughter, someone failing to value your love does not mean you are unworthy of love. One day, you will understand that losing the wrong person can be the beginning of finding yourself.”

Amara listened, but her heart was too broken to understand.

For weeks, she avoided her friends and stopped smiling. Every song reminded her of Daniel, and every memory brought fresh sadness.

Then, one morning, she received a message from an unknown number.

It read:

“Amara, there is something Daniel never told you. Before you decide to forget him forever, you deserve to know the truth.”

She stared at the message, her hands trembling.

Who was this person?

And what secret could possibly be worse than the betrayal she had already suffered?

Amara took a deep breath and typed three words:

“Tell me everything.”

She had no idea that the truth would change her life forever.
