Love Needs Edges
Love without boundaries can easily become confusion.
Caring for someone doesn't mean being available
for every mood,
every request,
every crisis,
or every pattern they have no intention of changing.
This is hard because boundaries can feel unkind
from the inside.
Especially when you've been taught
that being a good person,
means always making room
for everyone else.
Yet an umbrella opened before the rain
isn't an insult to the sky.
It is preparation.
Boundaries work the same way.
They aren't always accusations.
Sometimes, they are simply
an honest recognition of what you can carry
without becoming exhausted,
resentful,
or untrue to yourself.
Jesus loved people deeply,
yet He still withdrew.
He didn't respond
to every demand.
He disappointed expectations.
He let some people walk away.
His love did not mean
everyone had unlimited access to Him.
Boundaries aren't a rejection.
Sometimes a boundary
is what protects love
from becoming resentment.
It is what allows love to remain love.
It protects tenderness
from becoming exhaustion.
Boundary can protect the relationship,
from the version of you that appears
after too much has been taken.
Because loving someone
doesn't mean losing yourself
to keep them.
Love was never measured by permanent access.
Sometimes love needs limits.
Sometimes love needs space.
Sometimes,
love needs edges.
