MY NEW BEGINNING
There are nine of us in my house, but very soon, we are going to become six. Since school is resuming, things are already starting to change. My niece and two nephews have spent the whole summer with us, but they will soon be going back home to their parents. By Friday or thereabout, the house will already feel a little different.
And me? By the grace of God, I will also be leaving soon.
By the middle of September, I will finally become a 100-level university student.
Honestly, saying that still feels a little unreal to me. After everything that has happened, I am finally getting the opportunity to experience university life properly. I know university is stressful. I have heard all the stories about lectures, assignments, tests, exams, early mornings, tiredness, bad network, hot sun, and the broke life that comes with being a student. 😂
But sincerely speaking, I can't wait.
I am so anxious and excited to experience everything. I want to know what it feels like to actually be a university student. I want to attend lectures, meet new people, sit in class, learn new things, make memories, and experience this new chapter of my life.
Of course, I know that at some point I will probably get tired. There will definitely be days when I will wake up and think, “God, I want to go back home.” 😂 There will be days when the lectures feel endless, assignments become annoying, and I start wondering why I even wanted to resume in the first place.
But this time, I want to try my very best.
I don't just want to enter university and simply pass through it. I want to actually do well.
100 level is especially important to me because I know that the results I get from the beginning can help me throughout the remaining levels. I want to build a strong foundation for myself. My goal, by the special grace of God, is to achieve a 4.56 GPA.
I know that it won't be easy, but I want to try.
In my head, I can already imagine myself sitting among the first three rows in class, listening carefully to the lecturer and actually understanding what is being taught. 😂 I want to attend my classes regularly. I don't want to be that student who keeps saying, “I'll attend the next one,” until the semester is almost over.
I want to be attentive.
I want to take my studies seriously.
I want to ask questions when I don't understand something.
I want to revise my work instead of waiting until examinations are around the corner.
I really, really want to be good this time.
I feel like I have rested at home for so long that sometimes I behave as though I have already finished university and I am just waiting to go for NYSC. 😂 Meanwhile, I haven't even properly started my university journey!
So now, I feel like it is time to wake up and get serious.
I also know that university comes with distractions, and honestly, that is something I want to be careful about. I don't want too many friends to distract me from what I came there to do. I want to watch the people I talk to and the people I move around with. I want to make good friends, of course, but I also want to remember why I am there.
I want to enjoy my university life without allowing enjoyment to destroy my purpose.
I just pray that everything goes smoothly.
No unnecessary distractions.
No problems that will take me away from my goals.
No bad influences.
Just a peaceful and productive university experience.
And most importantly, I pray that God guides and protects me throughout everything. I know I am not perfect. I know I make mistakes and that I am a sinner, but I sincerely pray that God will continue to guide me, protect me, give me wisdom, and see me through this new chapter.
I don't know exactly what university life will bring.
Maybe there will be difficult days. Maybe there will be days when I want to give up. Maybe things won't always go according to plan.
But this time, I want to give it my very best.
I want to look back at my 100 level and be proud that I tried.
So, as September approaches, I am leaving behind the long holiday, the comfort of home, and the feeling that I have all the time in the world.
A new chapter is beginning.
And by the special grace of God, I am ready for it. 🥹❤️
