Letters to My Friend π€
17: When Nobody Seems to Notice
Dear Friend,
Have you ever been surrounded by people and still felt alone?
You laugh with them.
You answer their messages.
You show up.
You participate in conversations, respond when someone calls your name, and smile when you're expected to smile.
And yet, somewhere inside you, there is a quiet room nobody seems to know exists.
A place where you're tired.
A place where you have questions you don't know how to ask.
A place where you're carrying things you haven't told anyone about.
A place where, sometimes, you wish someone would simply stop and ask,
βAre you really okay?β
Not the casual βHow are you?β that we answer automatically with βI'm fine.β
But the kind of question that gives you permission to tell the truth.
Maybe nobody has asked lately.
Maybe you've become so good at carrying yourself that people assume you don't need help.
Maybe you've learned how to show up for everyone else while quietly wondering who will show up for you.
And sometimes, that's the hardest part.
You can be surrounded by people and still feel like nobody truly sees you.
But, dear friend, I don't know who needs to hear this today:
God sees you.
He sees the tears you wipe before anyone notices.
He sees the moments you stare at the ceiling because your thoughts won't quiet down.
He sees the prayers you cannot put into words.
He sees the battles you fight quietly and the strength it takes just to keep going.
None of it is invisible to Him.
David once wrote:
βThou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?βPsalm 56:8 (KJV)
Imagine that.
A God who notices tears we thought nobody saw.
A God who remembers the things we thought were too small to matter.
A God who sees beyond the smile, beyond the βI'm okay,β beyond the version of you everyone else gets to see.
So, dear friend, if tonight feels lonely, don't mistake loneliness for abandonment.
You may feel unseen by people.
But you are never unseen by God.
You don't have to pretend with Him.
You can tell Him you're tired.
Tell Him you're lonely.
Tell Him you're confused.
Tell Him what hurts.
Tell Him what you're afraid of.
You don't need perfect words. You don't even need to know exactly what you're feeling.
Sometimes, all you can say is, βLord, I don't know what to do.β
And that's still a prayer.
Maybe people won't always notice when you're struggling.
Maybe they won't always understand the silence behind your smile.
But God does.
And perhaps tonight, you can rest in that.
You are seen.
You are heard.
You are known.
And you are not alone.
Reflection πΏ
What would you say to God if you knew you didn't have to hide how lonely you really feel?
Prayer π€
Lord, for the friend reading this who feels unseen, remind them that You see them completely. Meet them in the quiet places of their heart. Comfort their loneliness, hear the prayers they cannot express, and help them remember that Your presence has never left. Teach them to rest in the truth that they are seen, known, and deeply loved by You.
Amen.
