In life, there's a lot of things that are uncertain. No one can foretell what the day will hold, where the day will lead us, or how things might change. Plans may go awry, promises may be altered and man's predictions may be incorrect. The one thing believers can be sure of is that Jesus Christ will return. It is certain.
One of the second coming of Jesus is not a myth, a story or a man-made prediction. It is a promise given by Christ Himself. Jesus promised His disciples that He would come back before His ascension into heaven. Acts 1:11 "But the Holy One who was taken up before their eyes will come the second time in glory. His departure was a real one and so will be His return.
Jesus told His disciples to be careful not to get lost in the world. In Matthew 24:44 He said, “Therefore, be ye also ready; for in that hour which ye think not the Son of man will come.” This is a reminder that, notwithstanding when this may occur, it is certainly going on.
It's not something people will believe. There are some who are mocking at the message of Christ's return. Some people get so caught up in the things of this world, like money, work, relationships, entertainment, and worldly goals that they don't consider eternity. Yet man's unbelief won't negate God's promise. Heaven and earth may pass away, but the word of God will never fail.
We ought to not live the same way today in light of the certainty of Christ's return. We should not wait till we see signs in the sky before embarking on seeking God. There should be no delay in repentance, forgiveness, obedience or the relationship with Christ. No one knows what tomorrow will bring.
Jesus will be coming for a people who are ready. It will be a time of great joy for those who belong to Him and it will be a time of accountability. Someone will have to give an account to everyone of how they lived. How many people we were famous with, how much money we earned and how many things we owned will not be the question. The most important question will be whether we were ready to meet Jesus.
Therefore, let us examine our hearts. Are we living for Christ or living for this world? Are we ready for eternity? Do we cling to faith when times are tough?
The message is very succinct; Jesus is coming again. It is certain. Sure, we don't know the day or the hour, but we know the One who made the promise. We should not be afraid, but ready our hearts and live faithfully.
May our lamps be alight, and our faith undaunted, and our eyes fixed upon Jesus. Let us love God, love people, share the Gospel, and live holy lives.
There will come a day, when the trumpet will sound. The King shall come again. The Savior will come.
It is certain. Jesus is coming again. Whether you're ready or not, that's the only question.
