Letters to My Friend š¤
13: Not Everything You Lose Is a Loss
Dear Friend,
Some things leave.
People.
Plans.
Dreams.
Visions.
Family.
Friends.
Versions of ourselves we thought we'd be forever.
Versions of people we thought will stay with us forever.
And sometimes, we stand at the door long after they've gone, wondering what we did wrong.
Wondering if something was wrong with us.
Wondering if we could have held on a little tighter.
But perhaps...
not everything you lose was meant to remain.
Some endings are painful because we loved what was.
Some hurt because we had already imagined what could have been.
And some...
are painful because God is asking us to release something we've been begging Him to keep.
I know.
Letting go isn't always an act of strength.
Sometimes, it's an act of trust.
Trusting that God sees what you cannot.
Trusting that His "no" is not cruelty.
Trusting that an ending can still be part of a beautiful story.
Part of something that would make us a better version of ourselves.
The Bible says:
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD."
ā Isaiah 55:8 (KJV)
Dear friend, perhaps you don't need to understand the ending tonight.
Perhaps you just need to surrender it.
Let all go, because God is asking you.
For he has a thought for us, of good and not of evil, to give us that very expected end.
Because sometimes, God closes a door not because what was behind it was bad, but because He knows it is no longer where you are meant to be.
Sometimes, he deliberately takes away those things you've seem to idolize over him just because he wants the best for you.
Don't look back like Lot's wife did.
You don't have to keep holding on to them.
Keep trusting the plan of God for your life
So be willing to surrender those things to him.
They're are somethings you left behind on purpose because you know they weren't going to make you any better.
Don't turn around to hold them back.
Don't turn around to those things you've left behind.
Those bridges you've burnt that weren't giving God any glory in your life. Don't turn around to take them back
Keep walking, keep moving, set your face like a flint, you'll definitely get to the promised land.
Some things leave because they have finished their assignment in your life.
They've finished their purpose.
While some leave because they cannot match up to the pace you're moving.
And some empty spaces...
are simply room for God to write something new.
A new story.
So grieve if you need to.
Cry if you must.
Acknowledge what it meant to you.
But don't build a home inside what God is asking you to release.
Don't let your life revolve around somethings that doesn't matter.
Let it go.
Not because it didn't matter.
Not because it didn't hurt.
But because your future matters too.
And perhaps one day, when you look back, you'll realize that what felt like a loss was actually God's quiet way of making room.
Reflection šæ
What are you holding onto that God may be asking you to surrender?
Prayer š¤
Father, give me the courage to release what You are asking me to let go of. Help me trust You when I don't understand what I'm losing. Heal the places that still ache, and remind me that Your plans are still good even when they look different from mine. Help me believe that what You have ahead of me is worth trusting You for.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
With hope always,
Your Friend. š¤
