WHEN FOREVER ENDS
They stood before the world and promised they would stay,
Through every storm and sorrow, through every passing day.
They spoke of endless laughter, of growing old as one,
Believing that their journey had only just begun.
But promises can tremble when hearts begin to strain,
And words that once brought comfort can slowly turn to pain.
The laughter fades to silence, the warmth begins to cease,
And what was once a home becomes a place without its peace.
Sometimes it starts with quarrels that neither side resolves,
With wounds that keep on growing while neither heart evolves.
Sometimes it comes from betrayal, from trust that falls apart,
Or years of hidden sorrow that slowly break the heart.
And sometimes two people, though neither one is wrong,
Discover that together they can no longer belong.
For staying is not always the answer to the pain,
When every effort made brings back the hurt again.
Then comes the word “divorce,” so simple yet so deep,
A word that leaves behind the memories people keep.
A signature can separate the paths that once were joined,
But it cannot erase the years that once entwined.
And what about the children, who never chose the fight?
Who hear the heavy silence and wonder why tonight
The home they knew together now feels divided in two,
And ask themselves in silence, “What did I do?”
They may pretend they're fearless, they may pretend they're fine,
While carrying silent questions they struggle to define.
They need to hear repeatedly, “This isn't yours to bear;
You are still deeply cherished, and you are still our care.”
Divorce can leave a doorway where happiness once stood,
But healing can rebuild it with patience, as it should.
For endings may be painful, but endings can reveal
That broken hearts can slowly learn again to heal.
It teaches us that marriage is more than vows we say,
It needs respect and patience to guide us every day.
It needs sincere communication, compassion and trust,
For love without these pillars can crumble into dust.
So before two hearts promise to walk the road as one,
They should understand the journey is not always filled with fun.
For marriage is commitment when skies are dark and grey,
Not merely sweet beginnings that slowly fade away.
And if the road must end, let bitterness not reign,
Let wisdom guide the ending and kindness soften pain.
For two people may stop being partners in a home,
Yet still remain responsible for the lives they helped to form.
So let us speak of divorce with compassion, not disgrace,
For every broken marriage has a different story to trace.
Let us learn from every ending, from every scar and tear,
And build wiser hearts and homes with greater love and care.
For sometimes “forever” ends before we thought it would,
Yet that does not mean that life can never again be good.
Some endings leave us hurting, some endings set us free,
And healing writes a future that we could not yet see.
