In life there are times when nothing is working out. You pray, and then you don't get a response. You make efforts, yet it is still tough. One door opens and another one closes. You're planning to do one thing at a time, but life has other ideas. During these times, there is a great tendency to get confused, discouraged and even doubt God. However, there are some seasons that we know the least and are being strengthened the most in our faith.
Trusting God does not mean that we understand everything He is doing. It involves believing that He understands what we don't understand. God's eyes see tomorrow, we see today. We look at the problem, God sees the purpose. We look at the closed door, God looks at the danger behind the closed door.
Proverbs 3:5-6 is a great verse to keep in mind: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not rely on your own understanding. That's not always simple. It's human nature to want explanations. We want to know how and why, when things will change, and how our story will end. However, belief can sometimes be a process of continued action despite the lack of complete visibility of the road.
Consider the seed in the soil. On the outside, it looks as though nothing is going on. The seed is covered with darkness, but under the ground, something is happening. Life is growing and developing in the roots. Likewise, there could be times in your life in which you experience a lack of growth. Don't think that something is not happening when you don't see the evidence.
God sometimes delays our experiences so that we can be prepared for something better. At times He takes away people because it would hinder us from becoming what we are supposed to be. Sometimes He shuts the door on opportunities because He knows that it is not the right opportunity for us. Sometimes, He lets us go through hard times for us to learn things such as patience, wisdom, courage, and relying on Him.
If it doesn't make sense, pray some more. If you're feeling weak, then hold onto hope. If the road is steep or tough, continue moving on. God's character remains the same, regardless of your situation. He is ever faithful, even when he is unsure about what is happening in his life.
Recall that Joseph did not know what was happening to him when his brothers hated him and sold him into slavery. But what seemed like the end of his story, was actually the beginning of his leadership journey. Where there once had been a destruction, there was now a transformation.
What may make no sense for you today is not what is over for your story. God has some chapters yet to write. One day, you will see that some of the things you cried about are actually the things that God provided you with the blessings of.
Accept God's plans for you when you don't understand them. Take His word if His answer is slow in coming. Believe in Him when the door is shut. Believe in Him when you're feeling lonely. Faith is not believing when things are simple, it's believing when things are complicated.
Do not allow your heart to become agitated. Stay strong with your faith. Keep believing.
The Lord may not tell us everything, but He will never stop being the Lord. And when all of this doesn't make sense, believe that His plan does.
