Stop waiting to be perfect , start now

Let me ask you something honest. How many plans have you buried because you were waiting for the perfect time? How many of you said, "I will start my business when I have more money. I will start learning that skill when I buy a better laptop. I will start speaking in public when my English is perfect. I will start going to the gym when I have time."

My friend, if you are waiting to be perfect before you start, you will never start. And if you never start, you will never become perfect.

Perfection is a trap. It looks like wisdom, but it is actually fear wearing fine clothes. You say you are waiting to be perfect, but the truth is you are afraid. Afraid of what people will say. Afraid of making a mistake. Afraid of failing. So you keep waiting. You keep planning. You keep writing your goals in your notebook every January, but you never take the first step.

Let me tell you the truth they didn't tell us in school: Nobody starts perfect. The musician you admire today was once a beginner who played nonsense. The businessman you envy today once sold nothing for months. The preacher who speaks so well today once stammered on stage. The only difference between them and you is that they started even when they were not ready.

Number One: Start Ugly.

Yes, I said it. Start ugly. Start with your broken English. Start with your small phone. Start with that small shop. Start with that rough idea. Because starting ugly is better than waiting beautiful. When you start, you will learn faster than someone who is still planning. The market will teach you. The road will teach you. Your mistakes will teach you. You cannot learn how to ride a bicycle by reading a book about bicycles. You have to sit on it and fall. You have to start.

I know a young man in Onitsha. He wanted to start selling shoes. He kept saying "when I have 500k, I will start." For one year, he waited. Nothing happened. One day his friend started with just 30k, buying 6 pairs of shoes and selling on WhatsApp. People laughed at him. Six months later, the guy with 30k had grown to 300k. The guy waiting for 500k was still waiting. Who is wiser? The one who started small.

Number Two: Done is Better Than Perfect.

You keep waiting because you want your first video to be perfect. Your first business to be perfect. Your first speech to be perfect. But listen, your first anything will never be perfect. And it is not supposed to be perfect. Your first work is to teach you, not to impress people. If you wait to be perfect, you will spend your whole life editing a life you never lived. Release it. Post that video. Submit that proposal. Sell that product. It may not be perfect, but it is DONE. And done can be improved. Perfect that never starts can never be improved.

Number Three: The Time Will Never Be Perfect.

We lie to ourselves that time will come when we have enough money, enough support, enough confidence. That time will never come. There will always be a problem. There will always be something not ready. The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The next best time is TODAY. If you wait for all traffic lights to turn green before you leave your house, you will never leave your house. You start, then the lights will start turning green as you move.

Number Four: People Respect Courage, Not Perfection.

Do you think people are looking for perfect people? No. People are looking for real people. People who tried. People who had the courage to start. When you start now, even imperfectly, you inspire someone else who is also afraid to start. Your imperfect start is someone else's permission to start.

So today, I came to tell you: Start that business with what you have. Start learning that skill with the phone in your hand. Start writing that book with one paragraph today. Start going to the gym with 20 minutes in your room. Start preaching, start teaching, start posting.

You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

In six months time, you will be happy you started today. Or you will be still saying "I am still planning."

Don't let perfect kill your progress.

Stop waiting to be perfect. Start now!
