The time comes in our lives when we have to look at our life and ask ourselves a pertinent question: Where am I going? Life could have been a lot of fun with jokes, distractions, wrong decisions, needless quarrels, lost opportunities, but at some point we need to realize that life is not a dress rehearsal. There is one life and what we do today will shape our future tomorrow.
Being serious doesn't mean that you're not supposed to laugh or enjoy yourself. It involves knowing which to take and which not to take. It is a mindset of knowing that you have dreams to pursue and a commitment to follow through, you have a future to plan for and you have responsibilities you may not be able to avoid.
People wait for years to change their life, in the hope of the “right time”. They say, “I will do it tomorrow” or “I still have time” or “Things will work out somehow.” Time doesn't stop for anyone however. In the meantime, another is working. As you're making excuses, someone else is creating the life you want.
It is OK to make mistakes. We are all human beings and we all have our own journey and there is no perfect one. The important thing is to learn from mistakes. Don't make failure a permanent address. If you fall, find out what you did wrong and get up and keep going.
Another thing is to cut down on comparing yourself with others. It's easy to see that everyone is doing well on social media, except for you. Keep in mind that you're viewing their successes, not always their failures. You're on a different path. Don't compare your progress to anyone else's, it will only make you feel worse.
When you have a dream, listen to it. Learn to do something if you want to learn it. If you're seeking a career, then you need to take the time to work for it. To be financially stable, practice money management skills. If you desire meaningful relationships, make yourself a better person. There is no quick fix way to create something worthwhile.
Life will also teach you by means of responsibilities. There are bills to pay, people who rely on you, problems to face and tough choices to make. The earlier you realize the importance of discipline and maturity the better prepared you will be for those duties.
Sometimes the biggest change comes when you're fed up with making the same mistakes over and over. Then you find that the years are passing, people are changing, opportunities are changing, and you can't stay the same as you were last year.
Now is the time to come to your senses.
Don't squander your potential. Don't let distractions take over your life. Cease excuses for not improving oneself. You might not have all the facilities today, but you can start with what you have and work on that.
Life is no more a joke. Time is passing, opportunities are slipping and your future is calling you. Put yourself first, work on yourself, stay focused and make every day count. It is not next week it is now that we must get serious.
