Letters to My Friend π€
11: What If Ordinary Is Enough?
Dear Friend,
Somewhere along the way, we started believing that our lives have to be extraordinary to be meaningful.
We want the big story.
The platform.
The applause.
The testimony that makes people stop and say, βWow. Look at what theyβve become.β
And there is nothing wrong with dreaming.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to do great things, make an impact, and become all that God has called you to be.
But sometimes, in our pursuit of significance, we forget the quiet beauty of being faithful in the ordinary.
What if the life you keep calling βsmallβ is actually sacred?
What if the unseen prayers matter?
What if showing up every day matters?
What if choosing integrity when nobody is watching matters?
What if loving one person well matters?
What if serving without recognition matters?
We live in a world that celebrates what can be seen. Numbers. Platforms. Achievements. Recognition. Influence.
But God has never measured significance the way people do.
Jesus Himself spent years in obscurity before His public ministry began.
Thirty years.
Thirty years of ordinary days.
No crowds following Him.
No miracles being recorded.
No public applause.
Just work.
Growth.
Obedience.
Preparation.
And heaven did not call those years wasted.
The Bible says:
βHe that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in muchβ¦βLuke 16:10 (KJV)
Dear friend, maybe you don't need a bigger life.
Maybe you need deeper roots.
Maybe God isn't asking you to be seen yet.
Maybe He's asking you to be faithful.
Faithful with the little you have.
Faithful in the place where you are.
Faithful with the people around you.
Faithful when nobody notices.
Faithful even when nothing seems to be changing.
Don't despise your ordinary days.
Don't look at someone else's life and conclude that yours is insignificant simply because theirs looks bigger.
Some of the most important things God does in us happen quietly.
Roots grow underground before trees rise above the ground.
Character is formed in hidden places before it is tested in public ones.
And sometimes, the season you desperately want to escape is the very season God is using to prepare you.
So breathe.
You don't have to become everything today.
You don't have to prove that your life matters.
You don't have to turn every season into a spectacle.
Just keep walking.
Keep praying.
Keep learning.
Keep loving.
Keep obeying.
Keep becoming.
Because perhaps one day, you'll look back at these seemingly ordinary days and realize they weren't ordinary at all.
They were shaping you.
They were strengthening you.
They were teaching you.
They were preparing you for the purpose you once prayed for.
Maybe ordinary is enough.
Maybe faithfulness is enough.
Maybe being exactly where God has planted you, and growing there with Him, is already something beautiful.
And maybe the life you're tempted to overlook...
is the very life someone else is praying to have.
Reflection πΏ
If nobody applauded your life, would you still believe it was meaningful?
Prayer π€
Father, teach me to value faithfulness over applause. Help me not to despise small beginnings or quiet seasons. When I am tempted to compare my journey with someone else's, remind me that You are writing my story differently. Help me to grow where You have planted me, serve faithfully where You have placed me, and trust You even when nobody sees the work You are doing in me. May I never mistake obscurity for abandonment or ordinary seasons for wasted ones. Let my life be meaningful because it pleases You, not because it impresses people. In Jesus' name, Amen.
With hope always,
Your Friend. π€
