The Road That Taught Me
I once believed the road would be easy,
A straight line drawn beneath my feet,
A quiet path with gentle mornings,
And every ending made complete.
But roads are rarely made of comfort;
They twist beneath the changing sky.
Some days, the sun becomes a stranger,
And heavy clouds refuse to fly.
I have walked through silent seasons,
Where every step felt slow and small,
Where dreams seemed distant in the distance,
And hope appeared too weak to call.
Yet somewhere underneath the struggle,
A little voice would always say,
“Keep moving, even if you stumble;
Tomorrow may be different from today.”
I learned that failure is not the ending,
And losing does not mean defeat.
Sometimes life removes a doorway
So we can find another street.
I learned that people come and leave us,
Like passing shadows in the rain.
Some will teach us through their kindness,
Others through a little pain.
I learned to value simple moments:
A peaceful night, a helping hand,
A conversation filled with laughter,
A chance to finally understand.
The road did not become much easier,
But somehow I became more strong.
I stopped expecting perfect weather
Before I dared to travel on.
Now when I look toward the distance,
I do not need to know the end.
I only need enough courage
To take the next step and begin.
For life is not a perfect journey,
Nor is it meant to always be clear.
Sometimes we discover who we are
By walking through what we once feared.
So if your road is filled with questions,
And you cannot see where it will lead,
Take one more step, believe in yourself,
And trust the strength you have to succeed.
For every road has something waiting,
A lesson hidden in its view.
And sometimes, the road that tests us
Is the road that builds us, too.
