The Backward Season
There comes a season when the road seems strange,
When yesterday feels closer than today,
And every step that should lead forward
Appears to carry us another way.
It is the season of unanswered questions,
When plans collapse and dreams seem far,
When doors we thought would open easily
Remain shut beneath the evening star.
The backward season can feel confusing,
For progress seems hidden from our eyes;
We watch our efforts lose their meaning
And wonder why our courage slowly dies.
But not every step that looks backward
Is truly a journey into defeat;
Sometimes life takes us through the valley
To prepare us for a stronger street.
A seed disappears beneath the soil
Before it rises into the sun;
The river sometimes turns and bends
Before its journey is finally done.
There are lessons hidden in retreating,
Wisdom buried inside delay;
Some battles must be left behind us
Before we find a better way.
The backward season teaches patience,
It teaches hearts to wait and grow;
It shows us things we never noticed
When life was moving fast below.
It may remove familiar comforts,
It may challenge everything we know,
But even in its quiet darkness,
Something deeper starts to grow.
So do not despise your slower moments,
Nor measure life by yesterday;
A pause is not the end of progress,
And delay is not the same as decay.
One day you may look back with gratitude
At the season you once wished away,
And understand that every detour
Was shaping who you are today.
When the backward season finally passes,
You will rise with clearer eyes,
Carrying strength from every struggle
And wisdom that no wealth can buy.
So keep walking, even when slowly;
Keep believing when you cannot see.
For sometimes the road that feels backward
Is quietly leading you to who you are meant to be.
