The people we think we can't live without are the people we have to lose sometimes. It's a sense of loss in the beginning that's like the end of the world. Where there's no one, there is a void. You recall their voice, their laughter, their messages and times together. You ask yourself what could have gone wrong and you wish you could go back in time.
Other times, however, the loss of people is not a punishment. In some cases it is a redirection.
We can fall in love with certain individuals and become lost in an attempt to keep them. We become somebody else to please them. We put up with when we're hurt because we don't want to lose them. We do the work we need to do, or sacrifice our peace, in order to have a relationship that is no longer providing peace in our life.
One day they go away.
At first, you may cry. May feel rejected, forgotten, unimportant. You might wonder why a person that you trusted would just leave so easily. However, things start to shift over time.
You begin to find out who you are once more.
You recall your dreams that you gave up to please others. You start to do things that make you happy. You begin spending time with people who really like you. Most importantly, you're taught that you are not worth of someone's decision to stay or leave.
Losing someone can teach you that not all relationships are meant to be for life. Others come into our lives to teach us something, to help us to grow or prepare us for something else. They might leave a bit of a wound behind but it might have been a necessary wound.
Sometimes, when you lose someone you find yourself again.
You start to know what you can and can't do. You are able to refuse without remorse. You put an end to asking for people to select you. You no longer pursue the people who have chosen to leave. You understand that love shouldn't make you feel you must always prove your worthiness of being loved.
Freedom is in the relinquishing.
Do not give in to apathy. When you no longer let someone else's lack of remove you from your identity. You can lose someone and still get on with your life. You can enjoy the memories without going back in the past. They say you can love from afar and make the choice to pick yourself.
Life takes away what we think we need and makes us realize what we actually need.
If you've recently been rejected by a loved one, then don't assume you've lost everything. Perhaps you've lost someone, but you have gained wisdom. Perhaps you suffered a loss of a loved one, but gained a loss of confidence. Perhaps you've lost someone's attention, but you have found your purpose.
Sometimes you lose people which is how you come here.
So when you come back to you again you will know that you are not their end. The dawn of a new story.
