CHARACTER AND THOUGHT
The statement "As a man thinketh in his heart so is he" encompasses a man's entire existence and is so broad that it extends to every situation and circumstance of his life. What a man thinks is really what he is, with his character serving as the foundation of his personality, the entirety of his beliefs. Every action of a man is like a plant, which develops from and cannot survive without the seed, originates in the concealed seeds of thought and would not have materialized without them. This applies equally to those actions referred to as "spontaneous" or "unpremeditated" and those that are performed on purpose.
The act is the flower of thought, and its fruits are joy and grief. Thus, a man collects the sweet and sour fruits of his own farming. By thought, we were created, and by thought, we were forged and built. If a man has negative thoughts, suffering follows him as does the wheel after the ox. Joy follows the one who persists in purity of mind.
Man is a growth according to the law, not a creation of artifice, and cause and effect are as absolute and unwavering in the secret realm of thought as in the world of visible and material things. A Godlike and noble personality is the product of sustained effort in correct thinking and the result of a long cherished relationship with Godlike ideas, not a matter of luck or favour. Similarly, the persistent harboring of groveling thoughts gives rise to a bestial and ignoble character.
Man creates or destroys himself; in the arsenal of thought, he creates the weapons he uses to destroy himself; and he also creates the instruments he uses to build himself glorious homes of joy, fortitude, and tranquility. Through appropriate selection and genuineness Through the use of thought, a man ascends to God's ideal; via misuse and error, he declines below the level of the beast. Between them all degrees of character are extremes, and man is their creator and ruler.
Among all the lovely truths about the soul that have been discovered and revived in this era, none is more encouraging or rewarding of divine confidence and promise than this: that man is the creator and shaper of condition, environment, and fate; the master of thought; and the moulder of character.
As a creature of Power, Intelligence, and Love, and the master of his own ideas, man possesses the key to every circumstance and carries within himself that transforming and renewing agency, regenerative agency by which he can make himself what he desires.
Man is always the master, even in his weakest and most abject state; but in his feebleness and degradation he is the foolish master who mismanages his household. He then becomes the clever master, controlling his energies with intelligence and shaping his ideas to generate beneficial results when he starts to think about his situation and assiduously seek for the Law on which his existence is founded. Man can become such a conscious master only by discovering within himself the laws of the universe considered to be a question of application, introspection, and experience.
Gold and diamonds can only be found after extensive mining and prospecting, and man is able to locate them, every truth related to his being, if he delves deep into the depths of his soul; and that he is the maker of his character, the moulder of his life, and the builder of his fate.
He might prove destiny without failing if he observes, directs, and modifies his thoughts while monitoring their impact on himself, other people, and his life and surroundings using every one of his causes and effects by careful practice and inquiry, utilize experience, even the most mundane and commonplace incident, as a means of gaining that goal.
Understanding, Wisdom, and Power are all forms of self-knowledge. Like in no other Is the statute that "He that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened" completely inviolable, for a man can only pass through the Door of the Temple of Knowledge through patience, practice, and incessant importunity.
