Where The Heart Still Knows

Where the Heart Still Knows

I found your name in the quiet of the rain,

Where broken hearts remember without shame.

The moon looked softer when I thought of you,

As if the night still knew what we once knew.

I stood beneath the silver, falling sky,

And watched the distant clouds slowly drift by.

Each drop that touched the window seemed to say

That some old memories never fade away.

I wondered if you ever think of me,

When evening settles softly on the sea,

When lonely roads grow quiet after dark,

And one familiar thought becomes a spark.

I kept your laughter folded in my soul,

A little light that made the darkness whole.

I kept the words you whispered long ago,

The little things you probably don't know.

A smile you gave when no one else could see,

The way you once believed so much in me,

The moments that seemed ordinary then,

Now feel like precious treasures I defend.

Though time has pulled our footsteps far apart,

Your memory still breathes inside my heart.

The years may change the places where we stand,

But some connections never leave the sand.

I learned that love is not always goodbye,

Nor every ending means that feelings die.

Sometimes a heart must learn to let things be,

While holding close what meant the world to me.

Some people leave, but never truly go,

They bloom in places only feelings know.

They hide within the songs we used to hear,

And suddenly, their presence feels so near.

They live inside the scent of morning rain,

In empty chairs, in windows touched by pain.

They walk beside us on familiar streets,

In every quiet place where memory sleeps.

And when the world grows cold and skies turn gray,

I hear your love in every falling ray.

I feel it in the warmth of afternoon,

In silver clouds that gather near the moon.

Sometimes I see your shadow in a crowd,

And for a moment, my heart beats too loud.

I know it isn't you, but still I smile,

Because my heart remembers for a while.

There are some names the years cannot erase,

Some memories no distance can replace.

And yours is written somewhere deep in me,

A chapter time could never make unsee.

I used to wish that fate would turn around,

That somehow you and I would again be found.

I wished that roads would lead us back somehow,

That we could have the life we dreamed of now.

But life has lessons love alone can't teach,

And some horizons were not ours to reach.

Perhaps the hands we wanted to hold tight

Were only meant to guide us for a night.

Maybe we were never meant to stay,

But some forever hides inside one day.

Perhaps the shortest moments leave the most,

Becoming what we remember when we're lost.

I think of all the things we never said,

The conversations living in my head.

The questions that will probably remain,

Like distant echoes whispering through rain.

What if we'd tried a little harder then?

What if we'd found our way to love again?

What if the timing had been kinder too,

And life had made a different road for you?

But questions cannot change the passing years,

Nor bring tomorrow back from yesterday's tears.

So I have learned to hold the past with grace,

Instead of wishing I could change its place.

I don't regret the love we shared before,

Even though it left me wanting something more.

For loving you taught me how a heart can give,

How memories can make old moments live.

You showed me that a single person's smile

Can make a difficult journey worth the while.

You taught me that the smallest acts of care

Can leave a kind of beauty everywhere.

And if someday you happen to recall

The person who once loved you through it all,

I hope you remember not the tears or pain,

But how we danced beneath the summer rain.

Remember how the stars seemed close that night,

How everything around us felt so right.

Remember how we laughed without a care,

As though the whole wide world belonged somewhere.

I hope that life has treated you with grace,

That happiness has found its rightful place.

I hope you wake beneath a peaceful sun,

And know that somewhere, you are still someone.

Not someone I am waiting for to return,

Not someone whose absence makes me burn,

But someone who once mattered deeply to me,

A beautiful part of who I came to be.

For love can change without becoming less,

And letting go can sometimes be tenderness.

To wish you well, though you are far away,

Is its own kind of love that chooses to stay.

So when the rain begins to softly fall,

And memories come quietly through it all,

I will not turn away or close my eyes;

I'll let the past drift gently through the skies.

I'll think of you without the old regret,

And thank the stars for every day we met.

For even though our story found its end,

I treasure every moment we could spend.

Some chapters close, but still their meaning stays,

Like golden light at the end of rainy days.

And though the book may never open anew,

A part of every page will lead to you.

Maybe love was never meant to be

A promise that would last eternally.

Maybe it was simply meant to show

How deeply two imperfect hearts can know.

Maybe forever isn't measured time,

Or years that stretch beneath the stars and shine.

Maybe forever is a single day

That lives within the heart and won't decay.

So I will cherish what we could not be,

The dreams that once belonged to you and me.

I'll carry them, but not as chains that bind,

Just little pieces of a softer time.

And if the night grows quiet once again,

I'll find your name somewhere inside the rain.

The moon will shine, the distant stars will glow,

And somewhere in my heart, I'll always know

That some people leave, but never truly go,

They become part of the soul's quiet flow.

They live in every tender memory,

In every place where love once used to be.

And though our footsteps wandered separate ways,

Your memory still survives the passing days.

Not as a wound, not as a debt to pay,

But as a gentle light that found its way.

So let the rain fall softly if it must,

Let old photographs grow faded with the dust.

Let seasons change and distant rivers run;

I'll keep the warmth of what we had, undone.

For I have learned that love does not require

A perfect ending or a lasting fire.

Sometimes its greatest gift is simply this:

To remember someone and still feel bliss.

And if one day my heart no longer aches,

I'll know that time has healed what distance breaks.

Yet even then, beneath the quiet glow,

There will be one thing my heart will always know:

That once, beneath a sky of silver blue,

There was a time when I belonged to you.

And though that time has gently slipped away,

Its little light still lingers in today.

So I will walk beneath the evening rain,

Not searching for your footsteps once again.

I'll let the memories rest where they belong,

And carry them as verses in a song.

Because some love stories are not meant to stay,

But that does not make them fade away.

Some hearts move on, yet still, somewhere below,

They keep one quiet truth the years can't overthrow:

Some people leave, but never truly go.

Some memories bloom where only feelings know.

And when the world grows cold and skies turn gray,

I will hear your love in every falling ray.

Maybe we were never meant to stay,

But some forever hides inside one day.

So I will cherish what we could not be

A beautiful ache that still lives in me.

And if you ever wonder where we are,

Know that I carry you beneath each star.

Not as someone I need to have again,

But as a beautiful beginning without an end.

For time may take our hands and lead us far,

And distance may divide us where we are,

But some things cannot disappear or flee

Like the part of you that still lives in me.

And when the rain grows quiet late at night,

I'll close my eyes and welcome back the light.

I'll smile for what was, and for what will be,

Knowing your memory helped shape me.

Perhaps that's what it means when hearts still know:

To love without possessing, then let go.

To carry what was beautiful, tender, true,

And quietly be grateful that I once knew you.
