If You Had ₦10 Million Today, Would You Invest It or Enjoy It?
Imagine someone suddenly transferred ₦10 million into your bank account today.
No loan.
No debt.
No repayment.
Just ₦10 million sitting in your account.
What would you do with it?
For many people, the first thought might be to buy a new phone, change their wardrobe, travel, buy a car, organize a big celebration or finally purchase some of the things they have always wanted.
And honestly, there is nothing wrong with enjoying your money. After years of working hard, everyone deserves to enjoy some of the rewards of their effort. Money can provide comfort, memorable experiences and opportunities that make life more enjoyable.
But there is another question we should ask:
What happens after the money is spent?
This is where financial discipline becomes important.
Instead of spending the entire ₦10 million, someone could decide to divide it into different portions. Part could be used to meet important personal needs, while another portion could be invested in a business, education, agriculture, real estate, financial assets or a skill that could generate future income.
Another person might decide to use part of the money to improve an existing business. Someone else might use it to acquire professional training or digital skills that could increase their earning potential.
The important thing is that money should not only solve today's problems; where possible, it should also help create opportunities for tomorrow.
However, investing does not mean putting money into every business opportunity someone recommends. There are many investments that can result in losses. Before investing, a person should understand the opportunity, consider the risks and seek appropriate professional advice when necessary.
There is also nothing wrong with keeping some money available for emergencies.
Imagine spending all ₦10 million within a few months and then facing an unexpected financial problem. The excitement of yesterday could quickly become the regret of tomorrow.
This is why financial planning matters.
You don't necessarily have to choose between enjoying your money and investing it. You can potentially do both by creating a balance.
For example, you could decide to enjoy a portion, take care of important needs, save some, invest some and use another portion to improve your ability to earn more.
You could also use part of the money to learn a skill or support your education. In today's world, investing in yourself can be just as important as investing in physical assets. A valuable skill can continue generating opportunities long after the original money has been spent.
Another important consideration is helping others. If you suddenly received ₦10 million, family members and friends might also come to you with different requests. Helping people is a good thing, but giving away large portions of the money without a plan could put your own financial future at risk.
It is therefore important to set boundaries and have a clear financial plan before making emotional decisions.
The real question is not simply:
“How much money do I have?”
It is:
“What can this money do for my future?”
₦10 million can buy expensive things, but it can also become capital for a business, education, investment or another productive opportunity.
Money can disappear quickly when there is no plan.
At the same time, life should not become so focused on saving and investing that you never enjoy anything. There should be room for reasonable enjoyment, provided it does not destroy your financial plans.
The goal should be to make your money serve both your present needs and future goals.
So, if ₦10 million entered your account today, what would you do?
Would you invest most of it, spend most of it, or divide it between enjoyment, savings and investment?
And more importantly:
If you received ₦10 million today, what would be the FIRST thing you would spend it on—and why?
Let's hear your honest answer in the comment Section 😉
