Lost Love
I felt love was a different feeling but mine was a dark feeling
A feeling that pierced my heart each time I thought about it
One that made me cry defining love
Being loyal to someone who was undeserving of it
Was that love?
Finding love was difficult,
But losing it was a choice.
I stopped chasing what wasn't mine,
And finally heard my own voice.
I held it like sand,
The tighter I held, the more it slipped.
I called it love,
But love shouldn't make you beg to be kept.
Love shouldn't make you feel less.
It wasn't mine to chase,
It was mine to release.
And in letting go,
I found some peace,
Not in love but in me.
Some love teaches you how to stay,
Mine taught me how to leave.
Not out of hate,
But out of finally learning what I need.
I needed me, nobody else to make me feel okay.
I let it go,
Not because I didn't care,
But because I finally did β
About me.
Now I water my own garden,
I speak kindly to my soul,
The love I chased in others
Was in me all along.
Loving me was the best love.
